Lead Arkeus’s software engineering function, building teams, standards, technical practices, and career pathways. Provide architectural and technical leadership across development, testing, integration, deployment, and real-time systems. Partner with systems, hardware, AI/ML, computer vision, advanced development, and product teams to deliver reliable software for complex sensing and autonomous platforms. Guide software from concepts through field deployment while balancing performance, security, reliability, technical quality, and delivery needs.

Design and architect production firmware for multi-microcontroller and SoC-based electro-optical systems. Develop drivers, control loops, bootloaders, secure update mechanisms, and hardware interfaces. Collaborate with electronics engineers on board bring-up, debug hardware and firmware interactions, and create automated, HIL, and on-target tests. Own firmware architecture, tooling, quality, security, field issue resolution, and technical standards for mission-critical defense products.

Design, model, optimise, prototype, align, and characterise optical and electro-optical imaging systems for autonomous sensing platforms. Responsibilities include optical tolerancing, sensitivity analysis, stray-light and ghost analysis, component selection, optomechanical integration, image-quality optimisation, manufacturing transition, and collaboration with machine-learning and computer-vision teams. The role requires hands-on optical engineering experience and eligibility for an Australian Defence security clearance.

Develop and deploy computer vision and machine learning models for real-time airborne object detection on edge hardware. Responsibilities include improving ETL processes, organising datasets, training neural networks with PyTorch and related libraries, optimising models, conducting code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, documenting systems, and supporting the full ML lifecycle from research through deployment.

Designs and improves manufacturing and assembly processes for complex electromechanical autonomous optical systems. Responsibilities include DFM/DFMA collaboration, production scale-up, work instructions, quality controls, root cause investigations, CAPA, tooling and test equipment validation, supplier issue resolution, engineering change and BOM management, Lean improvement, and production testing. Ensures traceability, documentation, and compliance with Defence and quality requirements.

Build and maintain ETL pipelines for large volumes of imagery and video data. Perform exploratory data analysis, clean and structure datasets, optimize SQL queries, create prototype visualizations, and ensure data is accurately labeled and ready for machine learning. Collaborate with ML engineers and document datasets, pipelines, and data-quality processes.

Leads US defense business development for autonomous sensing and edge-AI payloads, targeting DoD UAS programs and defense OEMs. Owns customer relationships, sales pipeline, capture strategies, proposals, demonstrations, flight trials, and strategic integrations. Translates military requirements into tailored technical solutions, builds government and industry partnerships, develops market intelligence, and secures major production or hardware integration contracts. Requires deep UAS expertise, DoD procurement knowledge, technical credibility, an active defense network, security clearance eligibility, and up to 50% travel.

Supports the CEO and executive team by managing calendars, communications, meetings, travel, governance rhythms, expenses, and follow-through. Coordinates strategic projects, tracks decisions and action items, prepares briefings and presentations, and improves executive processes. The role uses AI-enabled tools for scheduling, email triage, task management, and administrative automation while applying business judgment, discretion, and strong organisational skills in a fast-moving defence technology company.

Own the OTG optical terminal guidance product portfolio, roadmap, engineering execution, partner engagement, demonstrations, and systems integration. Lead software and systems engineering teams, establish software and AI transition criteria, ensure reliable deployment across autonomous platforms and munitions, and align product development with customer, partner, and defense-market requirements.
