Leads customer access and interconnection studies for generation, load, and transmission projects. Provides technical leadership, reviews power system analyses, develops connection solutions, evaluates system constraints, and supports regulatory and stakeholder proceedings. Uses PSS/E and related tools for power flow, stability, and short-circuit studies. Coordinates with utilities, developers, consultants, and internal teams while mentoring engineers and supporting engineering standards, project decisions, and Alberta grid planning.

Leads customer interconnection engineering studies for Alberta’s transmission grid, including power flow, stability, short circuit, and advanced power system analyses using PSS/E. Develops connection alternatives, reviews technical documentation, evaluates system constraints, supports regulatory and project execution activities, and collaborates with internal teams, utilities, market participants, and consultants. Provides technical leadership and mentorship to engineers while supporting reliable integration of generation, load, and transmission-connected projects.

Supports enterprise transformation initiatives through operational readiness coordination, governance, risk and dependency tracking, business analysis, stakeholder alignment, executive communications, and future-state business design. Facilitates cross-functional workshops, develops leadership materials, and translates complex business challenges into actionable recommendations. The role works across business units in a hybrid environment and requires strong strategic, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Provides organization-wide technical leadership for the design, approval, integration, operation, assessment, and lifecycle management of Remedial Action Schemes across Alberta’s power grid. The role establishes RAS governance and technical criteria, evaluates reliability risks, collaborates with facility owners and internal planning and operations teams, represents AESO in NERC and WECC forums, supports standards compliance, and trains engineers and operators.

Supports the design, modification, commissioning, documentation, modeling, and operational integration of remedial action schemes across Alberta’s power grid. Collaborates with planning, operations, engineering, facility owners, developers, and consultants; maintains RAS records and databases; validates EMS and simulation models; monitors scheme effectiveness; develops procedures and training; and provides technical guidance while escalating complex or high-risk matters.

Provides technical leadership for Alberta Reliability Standards development, maintenance, implementation, and compliance readiness. Leads industry working groups, stakeholder engagement, regulatory and risk-based analysis, standards interpretation, and technical documentation. Represents AESO in NERC and WECC forums, monitors industry developments, advises on future requirements, and mentors staff. Requires deep electricity-industry expertise, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and an APEGA Professional Engineer designation.

Two-year engineering graduate program with four six-month rotations across AESO business units. Responsibilities include power system modeling, power flow, stability and short-circuit studies, outage analysis, real-time operations applications, reliability compliance, engineering reports, stakeholder materials, functional specifications, programming-based study tools, and technical support. Graduates are placed into a permanent engineering role after completing the rotations.
