As the head of BetterUp Labs, she leads empirical research at the intersection of psychology and artificial intelligence, examining how people think, feel and perform when working with or managing AI. Her work explores how mindsets, relationships and communication shape human-AI interaction and how these dynamics influence performance and organizational culture. Kate’s research is rooted in the psychological benefits of sharing emotional experiences and explores how natural language use reflects and influences psychological states and interpersonal dynamics.

Kate has built, led and consulted with the top research teams in digital mental health. She was the founder of Sooth, a mobile platform for advice acquired by DreamsCloud (2016). Previously, she was EVP, strategy at Dachis Group (now Sprinklr) and VP of measurement science at Nielsen Online (BuzzMetrics).
