OpenAI has announced it will open its first India office in New Delhi in the coming months. The company also plans to hire a local team to support its expansion in the region.
According to reporting by TechCrunch, the move follows recent hires in India, including Pragya Misra and Rishi Jaitly, who were brought on to support government relations and AI policy efforts. As the world’s second-largest internet and smartphone market, India offers significant opportunities, and the new office is part of OpenAI’s plan to make advanced AI more accessible and relevant to users across the country.
“Opening our first office and building a local team is an important first step in our commitment to make advanced AI more accessible across the country and to build AI for India, and with India,” CEO Sam Altman said in a statement.
In addition, TechCrunch reported that OpenAI will also host its first Education Summit in India later this month, with additional events planned throughout the year.
