Summary: Nisos, an AI-powered human risk management company, built Identity Integrity within its Ascend platform to detect employment fraud. Its development required cross-functional collaboration and an experimental approach

Why Nisos Developed Identity Integrity to Address Employment Fraud

Hiring teams around the world are facing an evolving threat: fake candidate profiles.

In fact, research from Gartner estimates that one in four candidate profiles will be fake by 2028. Without a sound fraud mitigation strategy in place, organizations are struggling to navigate the rise in fraudulent applications.

Brendan Dodds and his teammates at Nisos, an AI-powered human risk management company, witnessed this phenomenon firsthand. They watched organizations struggle with sophisticated fraud schemes, synthetic identities and AI-generated credentials that were bypassing traditional verification methods.

“The problem we kept hearing was this: Traditional identity verification asks, ‘Is this document legitimate?’ and background checks ask, ‘Do these records exist in databases?’” Dodds said. “But nobody was answering the deeper question: ‘Does this individual’s provided information hold up when cross-referenced across truly independent sources?’”

What Does Nisos Do?

Nisos is the human risk management company specializing in unmasking threats before they escalate. The company’s intelligence-led Ascend platform and solutions help enterprises make critical decisions, manage human risk and drive real-world consequences for digital threats.

To fill this gap, Dodds’s team developed Identity Integrity, a client-led assessment capability within Nisos’ Ascend platform that’s designed to cross-reference information against multiple independent data sources to build a complete picture of identity consistency, all without requiring anything from the candidate beyond their resume and application information.

According to Dodds, Identity Integrity, which launched in October 2026, positions Nisos at the intersection of three significant trends: distributed workforces, AI-enabled fraud and the breakdown of traditional trust markers. The product’s launch is a major milestone for Nisos, as it demonstrates the company’s ability to identify white space in the market and build differentiated capabilities.

“That’s valuable not just for this product but for our reputation as an innovative organization,” Dodds said.

The Technology and Cross-Functional Teams Behind Identity Integrity

Identity Integrity is powered by multiple independent source categories, including open-source information, digital footprint analysis and professional platforms, offering flexible integration options to support organizations of varying sizes.

Creating such a complex solution required teams across Nisos to work together. The analyst team provided the investigative methodology and threat intelligence foundation that informed what signals mattered most, while product and engineering worked together to build the platform capabilities and ensure the user experience was intuitive. Meanwhile, legal and compliance helped teams navigate complex regulatory considerations.

Dodds’s team collaborated with sales, client success and delivery to create messaging that resonated with various stakeholders by acknowledging each stakeholder’s unique priorities, in addition to developing frameworks that helped teams tailor conversations to specific audiences.

“The cross-functional collaboration taught me that the best products emerge when you bring diverse perspectives to the table early and often,” Dodds said. “Engineering understood what was technically possible, analysts understood what signals mattered in real investigations, and my team could translate both into messaging that would resonate in the market.”

For Dodds, one pivotal moment in the development process was when his team reframed how they positioned the solution. They came up with the idea that “identity integrity is the new firewall,” emphasizing that verifying a person’s identity and access is increasingly important to cybersecurity as remote work becomes more common.

But perhaps the biggest “aha moment” was discovering that the absence of expected data signals was just as meaningful as its presence.

“This counterintuitive insight completely reshaped how we thought about the problem and became central to our differentiation in the market,” Dodds said.

Identity Integrity’s Potential Across the Workforce Lifecycle

Identity Integrity isn’t just a one-off solution for Nisos — it’s a stepping stone toward scalable success.

“Long-term, this becomes a foundational capability that touches multiple stages of the workforce lifecycle, from pre-hire identity review to ongoing trusted workforce assurance and beyond,” Dodds said.

Identity Integrity’s scalability also gives Nisos the opportunity to expand into broader workforce assurance programs while creating stronger customer relationships and recurring value. But most importantly, Identity Integrity solidifies Nisos’ status as a thought leader in the emerging identity security space.

“As the employment fraud problem grows — and all indicators suggest it will — we’ll hopefully be recognized as the organization that saw it coming and built the solution the market needs,” Dodds said.

Innovation and Experimentation at Nisos

Dodds considers Identity Integrity a testament to Nisos’ technological prowess and its willingness to challenge conventional approaches.

“The development process reflected an experimental mindset,” Dodds said. “We gave ourselves permission to question assumptions about how Identity Integrity should work.”

While “What if?” questions drove Dodds’s team to innovate, a zero-friction philosophy fostered creative thinking.

“We had to build a solution that worked entirely from information organizations already had,” Dodds said. “That constraint led to capabilities that are now core differentiators.”

The launch of Identity Integrity also reinforces Dodds’s long-held belief that the best product marketing happens when a team is deeply embedded in understanding customers’ problems.

“Hearing from organizations about the real-world impact of employment fraud — not just the financial cost but the security implications and reputational risk — gave our work genuine urgency and purpose,” Dodds said.

Identity Integrity is a client-led assessment capability launched in October 2026 within Nisos’ Ascend platform. Designed to combat employment fraud, synthetic identities and AI-generated credentials, it verifies identity consistency across the workforce lifecycle — from pre-hire candidate screening to ongoing trusted workforce assurance — without requiring candidates to provide anything beyond their resume and standard application information.

Identity Integrity evaluates candidate legitimacy through an automated, zero-friction verification approach. It checks applicant details against multiple independent data categories, including open-source intelligence, digital footprint analysis and professional platforms, to verify whether the individual's provided information holds up across disparate sources. The solution functions entirely using the information an organization already collects during the hiring process (the candidate's resume and application details), requiring no extra documents, tasks or manual input from the applicant.

Identity Integrity evaluates both the presence of validating data and the absence of expected data signals — a key analytical insight that flags synthetic or manipulated identities. Built into the Ascend platform with input from threat intelligence analysts, engineering and legal teams, it provides customizable integration options to fit the workflow and scale of various organization sizes.
