Since the early 2000s, the country has been attracting top companies like Microsoft and others to its shores, with many citing the strength of the local IT workforce and English proficiency as key reasons for expanding.

Microsoft is perhaps the most recognizable international tech company in Costa Rica. It opened an office in San Jose in 2017 and has been influential in developing the local tech community. Today, Microsoft employs over 1,000 people in the area and uses its regional office to provide customer support services throughout Latin America. 

 

Snowflake is a multinational cloud provider that employs software developers in Costa Rica. The company provides various cloud platforms with specialized compute power for tasks like web hosting, SaaS applications and AI development. For example, its Cortex AI platform uses a serverless process and hosts several leading generative models, which developers can access to build and deploy customized solutions.
