Summary: HCSS builds construction software with a mission to care for employees as much as customers, creating a supportive culture where authenticity and growth thrive. Findhelp connects people to social services across the country, inviting employees to power the social safety net through meaningful, mission-driven work.

Two unrelated tech companies overlap unexpectedly: Both of their missions involve connecting people to what they need.

In broad terms, that’s what Findhelp and HCSS are all about. Findhelp is a platform that helps people access social services, including programs related to food, housing, healthcare and financial support. Meanwhile, HCSS develops software for construction companies that build critical infrastructure like roads, dams, bridges and airports.

Both companies help solve large-scale problems, but the greatest similarity between the two is simple: They put people first.

Finding an employer that puts people first can be hard to find, but once job seekers do they often don’t want to leave. If you’re looking for an employer with a mission you can get behind, look no further. We spoke with professionals from Findhelp and HCSS about what it’s like working on their growing teams.

Tell us about your company’s mission. How does that mission influence the company culture? Did that mission impact your decision to join the team?

At HCSS, our mission is “to help customers achieve excellence through our proven, customer-centric, end-to-end solutions and exceptionally helpful service, while providing a great life for our employees.” That last part is huge. The way we care for our people internally is exactly how we empower them to care for our customers.

We pour a lot of genuine care into making sure our team feels supported, included, heard and valued. That care naturally flows back to our customers, creating a cycle where employees are happy, customers are happy and the business thrives. The mission and culture were the big reasons I joined HCSS. I’d heard about our award-winning culture long before I came on board and four years later, it still rings true. Once you’re here, you realize it’s not just words framed on a wall. It’s a genuine, lived-out way of working and supporting each other. Joining the team felt like a no-brainer.

From your perspective, how does your work connect to the overall company mission?

I feel like I have a really special role working in HR. For us, our employees are our customers. That means it’s our job to provide the same level of care, support and excellence to them that we expect them to provide to our customers. It can be a lot of pressure, but it’s also incredibly rewarding to know that what we do directly shapes employees’ experiences and helps them live their best lives at HCSS. A great example is the launch of our employee experience team this year, which I’m fortunate enough to lead. Our goal is to build a culture where everyone feels comfortable being themselves. A lot of the events we host start as employee ideas and we do everything we can to make them happen. By really listening to what people want, whether it’s a festival, wellness activity or cultural celebration, we create opportunities for connection and belonging. Seeing people genuinely enjoy coming to work is what keeps us motivated to keep that culture growing.

What advice would you give a job seeker hoping to join your company?

My biggest advice is simple: Be yourself. Authenticity is something we value deeply. We want people who know what they bring to the table, but who are also open about what they’re still learning. Growth is part of the journey here and we support each other along the way. So come in with a genuine attitude and a willingness to learn. We’re not looking for perfect resumes. We’re looking for real people who are excited to be part of a team that cares. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to who we hire and honestly, that’s what makes our culture so strong.

Lexi Riley
Curation Manager  • Findhelp

Findhelp was founded to connect all people in need to the programs that serve them with dignity and ease. Findhelp’s platform enables community organizations, governments and businesses to manage and coordinate care.

Tell us about your company’s mission. How does that mission influence the company culture? Did that mission impact your decision to join the team?

Findhelp’s mission to connect all people and the programs that serve them, with dignity and ease is at the forefront of everything we do. Our mission plays a huge role in the culture of our company. Everyone here has their own story of what brought them to Findhelp, but it is clear that everyone here is here for the same reason: to power the American social safety net. I was drawn to Findhelp because of our mission and knew I wanted to work somewhere where I could be a part of the long-term solution, not just short-term fixes.

From your perspective, how does your work connect to the overall company mission?

A huge part of our product is ensuring we maintain the largest and most engaged network of social programs and in curation it’s our job to add new programs and keep our existing programs accurate. Each program our team adds or each initiative we work on directly impacts the quality of our network, ensuring seekers are connected with resources that will meet their needs. When I started my journey at Findhelp, I remember creating a new program for a food pantry and being hit with the realization that that program could help someone eat that day. Working directly with the programs on Findhelp’s site is a huge commitment and I am proud to be a part of such a dedicated team!

What advice would you give a job seeker hoping to join your company?

I would tell someone looking to join Findhelp to be prepared to do amazing work and be held to a high standard. The work we produce as a company can be challenging — yet extremely rewarding — and it drives real results across the country. We’re not just checking boxes, we’re solving meaningful problems and helping connect people to the resources they need most. Come in with curiosity, resilience and a willingness to learn quickly. Collaboration is key here, so being open to feedback and eager to contribute your unique perspective will help you thrive. It’s also important to stay mission-driven. Our work impacts communities every day and keeping that bigger picture in mind will motivate you during even the toughest projects. If you bring passion, adaptability and a commitment to excellence, you’ll find yourself surrounded by teammates who are equally dedicated and inspired.
