HawkEye 360, a geospatial data and analytics company, opened a new satellite manufacturing facility in Herndon last week. The 19,000-square-foot space will be dedicated to data processing, software development and satellite manufacturing to support the needs of HawkEye’s government customers.

The company expects to fill the new building with up to 70 employees and is now hiring for a variety of engineering roles.

HawkEye360 leverages space-based radio frequency (RF) intelligence to help organizations trying to make the world a safer place. The company works with organizations across public and private sectors in defense, maritime and wildlife protection.

The new facility follows the company’s $145 million Series D raised last year, building on HawkEye 360’s goals to build its own satellites for geospatial data collection. Full control of the company’s development chain will allow HawkEye 360 to introduce new capabilities and strengthen its security. The manufacturing site features a customized clean room and electronic lab for advanced RF technology and smallsat manufacturing, according to a company statement.

“Our new Advanced Technology and Development Center provides our growing team of brilliant staff a dedicated facility in which they can thrive, centralizing all our data engineering and satellite manufacturing in-house,” HawkEye 360 CEO John Serafini said in a statement. “This gives us more flexibility to adapt and innovate our commercial RF GEOINT technology. Our customers will benefit through our discoveries, as we place more sophisticated RF-sensing satellites into orbit and build algorithms that extract value from this important data. We are proud to be investing in the local economy with these high-paying, mission-focused jobs that make a global impact.”

Looking forward, HawkEye 360 expects to launch a sixth cluster of three satellites by the end of the year, bringing its total constellation to 18.
