Build and operate scalable scam prevention and detection systems for Wise’s financial platform. The role is approximately 80% backend and 20% frontend, involving Java/JVM and Spring development, React-based applications, distributed systems, CI/CD, databases, and test-driven development. Engineers will own projects end to end, improve fraud controls, increase automation, protect customer funds, and collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Investigations teams.

Build and scale backend systems for Wise’s recipient management experience. Responsibilities include developing distributed systems, designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, optimizing relational and non-relational databases, creating schemas, and delivering reliable customer-focused products. The role involves technical vision, close collaboration with product, design, and analytics teams, agile development, code reviews, test-driven development, and maintaining production-critical services.

Lead Wise’s Verification Platform engineering team, managing and mentoring engineers while owning the technical roadmap, architecture, reliability, security, scalability, and operational excellence of business KYC infrastructure. Partner with global product and engineering teams, contribute hands-on when needed, run engineering rituals and incidents, and guide development of configuration-driven rules, review tooling, vendor integrations, distributed decisioning, and event-driven re-evaluation systems.

Build and maintain a centralized risk platform that unifies data and decision-making across identity, fraud, and compliance. Develop foundational backend services, enable product teams to ship safely at scale, and collaborate with risk and product stakeholders to reduce fraud and improve trust.

Build and operate real-time fraud prevention systems for transfer and customer-profile decisioning. Own technical roadmaps, design scalable low-latency distributed systems, improve reliability and observability, address technical debt, and productionize AI-driven signals. Mentor engineers, lead technical discussions and incident resolution, collaborate with Product, Data Science, Fraud Operations, and Analytics, and balance fraud protection with customer experience.

Build and evolve Wise’s Product Eligibility platform, determining customer product and feature availability across markets. Design and maintain distributed systems, databases, schemas, REST APIs, platform capabilities, back-office tooling, and customer-facing flows. Collaborate within an autonomous agile team with product and analytics partners, applying test-driven development, code reviews, and best practices to improve customer experiences and scale Wise’s transfer products.

Design, implement, and maintain direct integrations between Wise and complex financial systems across EMEA. Develop scalable network architecture, automate and optimize infrastructure, support cloud and data-center connectivity, and manage routing, VPNs, firewalls, and security policies. Collaborate with platform and product engineering teams, third-party partners, and stakeholders to plan roadmaps, translate requirements into technical solutions, and deliver reliable, compliant network systems.

Build backend solutions for Wise’s recipient and contacts experience. Responsibilities include developing scalable services that support adding, finding, and managing recipients, collaborating with designers, product managers, and analysts in an autonomous agile team, and contributing to critical systems used across Wise’s international money transfer platform.

Build and evolve Wise’s Rules Platform, developing scalable backend services and reusable internal libraries for risk, fraud, AML, and KYC teams. Design distributed systems, improve performance and reliability, manage data consistency, monitor SLOs, and drive technical architecture decisions. Collaborate with product managers and engineers, own initiatives from discovery through delivery, contribute to code reviews, and mentor engineers.

Build and own a centralized Customer Risk Assessment platform: design and deploy backend microservices (Java/Spring Boot), develop responsive React + TypeScript frontends, aggregate fincrime signals, implement risk mitigation components, and scale servicing workflows. Collaborate cross-functionally, take product ownership from discovery to production, and deliver resilient, testable systems that enable fast, compliant decision-making across Wise.
