The role drives technical direction across entitlements, licensing, provisioning, seat management, usage visibility, and cost management. Responsibilities include hands-on distributed systems engineering, migrations, performance and reliability improvements, cross-team influence, AI-assisted engineering adoption, and mentoring senior technical staff.

Build and maintain secure, performant backend services for GitLab’s Change Record team using Ruby on Rails and GraphQL. Develop APIs, data models, business logic, tests, and user-facing workflows while improving reliability through performance tuning, caching, observability, rate limiting, and resiliency. Collaborate across teams, support production systems through Tier 2 on-call, troubleshoot incidents, and use AI coding agents responsibly.

Own the technical strategy for GitLab’s strategic technology partnerships, translating partner roadmaps into integrations, architecture, and product opportunities. Evaluate AI models and agents, build prototypes, facilitate technical workshops, develop business cases, and influence product roadmaps. Coordinate Engineering, Product, Finance, FinOps, Sales, Marketing, R&D, and partner teams through delivery while tracking cloud, AI, and DevSecOps developments. The role is remote and requires quarterly travel with EMEA-overlapping hours.

Build and maintain GitLab’s authentication services across the Rails monolith and GATE. Develop token issuance, validation, identity, passkey, passwordless, service-account, and workload identity capabilities using Go and Ruby. Migrate authentication paths, improve access management, address security vulnerabilities, optimize performance, and contribute to engineering standards, roadmap planning, code reviews, and open-source communication.

Build, test, and maintain People systems automations and integrations across Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, Workato, Google Cloud, and internal tools. Develop Ruby or comparable scripting solutions, Slack apps, AI-powered workflows, and reliable CI/CD deployments. Monitor integration health, troubleshoot failures, follow security and SOX controls, and collaborate with People Technology, Security, IT, and AI Engineering teams. Use AI, LLMs, and MCP frameworks to streamline People operations and improve employee experiences.

Build and maintain software, automation, tooling, and infrastructure that support GitLab demos, workshops, trials, and internal test environments. Improve the Demo Architect Portal, enable self-service, create technical workshop assets, troubleshoot environments, and collaborate with sales, solutions architecture, customer success, marketing, UX, and engineering teams. The role combines software engineering, infrastructure operations, technical enablement, and customer-facing collaboration in a remote, asynchronous environment.

Design and evolve high-scale backend capabilities for GitLab’s container registry. Drive architecture, performance, reliability, security, APIs, testing, and operational readiness. Mentor engineers, influence technical direction, participate in incident response, and collaborate asynchronously across product, infrastructure, data, frontend, and security teams. Integrate and evaluate agentic AI systems in production engineering workflows while promoting responsible and effective use.
