HANAC provides SARA Social Services for the residents of its buildings and also provides services to third parties that have an affordable senior housing portfolio. The Senior Affordable Housing Tenant Services program provides funding for light-touch services for formerly homeless, senior tenants in NYC.
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and experienced Yoga/Exercise Instructor to lead fitness and wellness classes for adults ages 60+. The ideal candidate will have experience adapting movement, balance, and mobility exercises for older adults and creating a safe, encouraging, and engaging environment.
Responsibilities
• Lead group yoga/exercise classes tailored to the needs of seniors 60+.
• Modify activities to accommodate different mobility levels and physical limitations.
• Promote safe movement and proper technique to prevent injuries.
• Maintain a positive, motivating, and supportive atmosphere.
• Track attendance and provide feedback or updates as needed.
• Collaborate with program staff to support overall wellness initiatives.
• Maintain a clean and organized activity area.
• Maintain a clean and organized activity space; report any damage or equipment issues to the Program Director.
• Report any injuries, incidents, or concerns immediately to the Program Director.
• Maintain professionalism at all times and give full attention to participants during sessions.
• Work collaboratively with center staff, administration, and maintenance as part of a team environment.
Qualifications
• Certification in Yoga Instruction, Fitness Training, Group Exercise, or related field.
• Experience working with older adults (60+) required.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Strong communication skills and a patient, supportive teaching style.
• Ability to adapt exercises for varying fitness and mobility levels.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
