Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to develop a critical utility tool for X-Plane Flight Simulator.
The core idea is to transform Airbus Flight Data Recorder data, provided in CSV format, into a format that can be instantly replayed and visualized within X-Plane's 3D environment. This will help the Incident / accident investigation team in their analysis providing a simulated view of Flight deck at the time of Incident.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to gain experience in Flight Operations, Aircraft systems, Incident analysis, X-Plane 12 flight simulator development and also get your flying hours on the simulator as an add on.
Mission for this internship is to:
Comprehensive Data Mapping: Identify and catalog every relevant X-Plane dataref required to accurately simulate all aircraft systems and display functions for the target Airbus family. This involves finding datarefs for flight controls, engine readings, navigation systems, electrical power, hydraulic pressures, fuel states, cockpit display indicators, and all other parameters required for a complete system and display representation.
Airbus Parameters - XPlane Dataref Mapping: Design and develop a tool which maps the Airbus Data Recorder parameters to the cataloged X-Plane datarefs.
X-Plane (.fdr) File Generation: Implement the logic to process the input .csv data and output a correctly formatted .fdr file for full replay capability.
Scalability Requirement: Initially focus development and validation on the Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, ensuring the tool's architecture is robust and modular enough to be easily adapted and used for the Airbus A350.
Integrate Airbus In-house tool for data visualization with X-Plane to develop a feature where interacting with data in Airbus tool should reflect in X-Plane as well during replays.
Testing & Documentation: Rigorously test the generated .fdr files within X-Plane and provide complete source code and user documentation.
By the end of this internship, you'll have delivered:
A robust tool that accepts a CSV file of flight parameters, maps those parameters to the correct X-Plane datarefs, and outputs a valid .fdr file for immediate flight replay and visualization in X-Plane.
Required Skills:
Keen interest in Aviation data.
Experience with Flight Simulator X-Plane preferred.
Strong programming skills in Python for development.
