About the Role & Program:

WTVD-TV, a Disney/ABC–owned television station in North Carolina, operates in the 22nd largest television market of the US. 


The WTVD News & Technology teams operate and maintain systems that support daily news coverage. Interns work alongside newsroom, production, digital, and engineering teams to learn how stories move from an idea to broadcast and digital publication, while gaining exposure to the tools, workflows, and technical operations that make reliable news delivery possible.


This internship is a part-time, six-month commitment in the Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville area from January 2027-June 2027.


What You Will Do:

On any given day you will be tasked with one of the following.

  • Assist with content gathering, video research, media retrieval, and asset preparation to support daily news coverage across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Utilize newsroom, production, and content management systems to support newsgathering, publishing, and workflow operations.
  • Support the organization, management, and distribution of media assets for on-air, digital, and archival use.
  • Collaborate with newsroom, digital, production, and engineering teams during daily coverage, breaking news, live events, and special projects.
  • Participate in engineering and newsroom technology initiatives while assisting with equipment maintenance, system support, and technical workflows.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, repair and documenting critical systems that support or maintain other departments and facilities.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Interest in local news, storytelling, video production, broadcast technology, or newsroom operations.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, ask questions, take initiative, and respond professionally to feedback.
  • Basic familiarity with video editing, digital content tools, cameras, or production equipment is helpful but not required.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience with Adobe products.
  • Previous experience in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and news media production; and/or television news script writing.
  • Previous internship, project, or volunteer experience in television, media, broadcast, or technology environments.

Education

  • Junior or Senior year preferred.
  • Major or previous coursework in journalism, communications, media production, broadcast operations, engineering, digital media, or a related field.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information:

  • Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
  • Fully available from January 2027 through June 2027
  • All candidates must be willing to work 18 hours a week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the Raleigh/Durham NC area
  • Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work in the Raleigh/Durham NC area
The pay rate for this role in North Carolina is $20.00 per hour.
