Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Education and Experience: 

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in English, rhetoric & composition, or a related field is required
  • A minimum of 2 years of tutoring/editing experience is required
  • Experience overseeing a college Writing Center is preferred

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Institutional Administrator for Accuplacer
    • Coordinate writing placement tests for incoming on-campus students
    • Maintain testing policies and procedures
    • Communicate test scores to A&S Department for course placement
  • Coordinate on-campus Writing Services
    • Evaluate Writing Services and their effectiveness in collaboration with the Ally Center Director
    • Establish and influence a culture of writing that promotes scholarship for on-campus students          
    • Develop and maintain writing resources and training on style guides
    • Partner with professors who require writing visits for students
    • Consult the Arts and Sciences department and library staff regarding information literacy and writing skills development across the campus
    • Market Writing Services via in-class presentations and social media
    • Provide individual writing support for students as needed.
    • Track student visits and data and report to the Ally Center Director
       
  • Supervise student workers within Writing Services
    • Oversee the recruiting and hiring of new student workers
    • Develop an ongoing writing mentor training program
    • Train and supervise writing mentors in keeping confidential records
       
  • Meet with students who have violated the Academic Integrity Policy for plagiarism
     
  • Oversee LBC100 and FAS100 courses (First semester orientation for on-campus and online students)
    • Recruit and orient instructors
    • Revise syllabi and submit to the provost's office
    • Work with the provost’s office to confirm work agreements and instructor remuneration
    • Revise course content
    • Integrate writing and research into the orientation process of all LBC students.
  • Stay current with Writing Center trends and scholarship
  • Provide writing support for online students during the summer term
  • Serve on the AI Taskforce
  • Assist in other duties when called upon and as needed for the good and welfare of the total college ministry
