I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Writer-Reporter, Current Events, is supervised by the Executive Editor of Hard News and is responsible for pitching, reporting and writing stories across platforms. With a focus on personality-driven current events in government, the Writer-Reporter also contributes to other Hard News teams (Crime, Health, Human Interest, Royals & Sports) as needed. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, researcher, reporter and interviewer with sound news judgment and an enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. They will be expected to write between four and six stories each day under tight deadlines and assist in developing sources and supporting long-term reporting initiatives. They will also be expected to work occasional nights and weekends to cover breaking news and events. The Writer-Reporter is a collaborative team player with strong knowledge of the digital landscape, including SEO, Discover and analytics.

10% - Taking on and organizing special content projects as needed, and other duties as assigned
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
BA/BS degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience writing for a high volume, digital news operation.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proven ability to work independently.
- Strong writing and research skills and impeccable journalistic standards.
- Ability to respond quickly to breaking news.
- Strong reporting and interviewing skills and the ability to cultivate new sources
- Have a passion for the PEOPLE brand.

Pay Range
Salary: New York: $68,000.00 - $68,000.00The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, and short- and long-term incentives.
