• Hourly rate: Up to £15 per hour dependent on experience

• Hours: 7am - 17:00 Monday - Friday

Smiths is looking for a reliable and hardworking Workshop Operative to support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of our fleet. This is a varied, hands-on role involving workshop and yard responsibilities, helping to ensure our vehicles are clean, well-presented and prepared for service.

Working closely with our fleet technicians and workshop team, you will play an important role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, housekeeping and safety across our fleet operation. From vehicle washing and preparation to supporting workshop activities and maintaining tidy, organised work areas, your contribution will help keep our fleet ready for operation and support the smooth running of the workshop.

• Washing and cleaning HGVs, trailers and fleet vehicles to company standards.

• Assisting with day-to-day workshop activities to support fleet maintenance and vehicle availability.

• Maintaining clean, organised and safe workshop, warehouse and yard areas.

• Inspecting tools and equipment before use and reporting any defects.

• Supporting the movement of vehicles between company sites and external locations.

• Operating forklifts, telehandlers and other equipment where trained and authorised.

• Completing relevant records and documentation accurately.

• Adhering to all Health & Safety, environmental and company procedures.

• Full UK Driving Licence with a clean driving record.

• Experience working within a workshop, transport, fleet, warehouse, construction or similar operational environment.

• Good practical aptitude.

• Knowledge of safe working practices and Health & Safety requirements.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Experience carrying out vehicle inspections, cleaning or basic maintenance tasks.

• Experience working with commercial vehicles or HGV fleets.

• Mechanical maintenance experience.
