The Role
Own the day-to-day workplace experience for NFX’s San Francisco office, including guest reception, office operations, vendors, building management, onboarding and offboarding, benefits coordination, events, IT support coordination, mobile device management, and security and privacy operations. The role requires exceptional organization, judgment, hospitality, initiative, and comfort handling physical tasks and occasional after-hours events.
Summary Generated by Built In

NFX is building the venture firm that today’s top founders deserve. We’re a mission-driven team that operates with the speed and ambition of a startup, combining powerful technology, deep expertise, and the power of network effects to help extraordinary founders build enduring companies.

We care deeply about the experience people have with NFX—whether they’re a founder walking into our office for the first time, an employee starting their first day, or a member of our team coming in on a Monday morning. We move quickly, have high standards, and believe the details matter.

Our Workplace Experience Manager owns that experience in our San Francisco office. You’ll make sure our workplace runs exceptionally well, our team is taken care of, and every interaction with NFX feels thoughtful, warm, and distinctly us.

This is a role for someone who loves people, sweats the details, takes enormous pride in making things run well, and gets genuine satisfaction from creating a great experience for others.

About You

You’re a natural host. You’re friendly, outgoing, and energized by people. You intuitively pick up on social cues, connect easily with people from different backgrounds, and know how to make someone feel welcome without making it feel forced.

You know how to create a great experience. Whether you’re planning an event, welcoming a candidate, or making an ordinary day at the office better, you understand that the little things matter. You notice details other people miss and take pride in getting them right.

You’re exceptionally organized. You can juggle a dozen things at once, know what needs attention first, and rarely let anything fall through the cracks. You create order without creating bureaucracy.

You anticipate rather than react. You notice the conference room needs attention before the next meeting starts. You realize we’re going to run out of something before we actually do. You see the problem coming and solve it before someone has to ask.

You have excellent judgment. You’ll have visibility into confidential employee and company information and interact regularly with founders, investors, candidates, vendors, and our team. You understand when something requires discretion and can be trusted to handle sensitive situations thoughtfully.

You hustle. You have grit, act with purpose, and move fast. You’re self-motivated and comfortable operating with limited direction. Once you understand the goal, you take ownership and make it happen.

You’re curious and resourceful. You enjoy figuring things out, including things you’ve never done before. You’re happy to roll up your sleeves and help wherever you can add value. “That’s not my job” isn’t a phrase you use very often.

You’ve likely spent 3-5+ years in workplace experience, office operations, hospitality, people operations, or another high-touch environment. But we care more about finding an exceptional person than checking every box on a résumé.

What You’ll DoOwn the NFX workplace experience

You’ll own the day-to-day experience of our Hayes Valley office and make it a place where people genuinely want to be.

You’ll welcome founders, candidates, investors, and other guests and make sure every interaction with NFX leaves a positive impression.

You’ll manage the details that keep the office running beautifully—from food and supplies to conference rooms, building needs, and all the inevitable things that break when you least expect them.

You’ll manage our workplace vendors and building management and know exactly who to call when something goes sideways.

Help create an exceptional employee experience

The employee experience starts before someone joins NFX. You’ll help make the interview and recruiting experience seamless and welcoming and will own the operational details of onboarding and offboarding employees.

You’ll coordinate key people processes, including benefits and open enrollment, onboarding and offboarding, and our annual performance review cycle.

You’ll be a resource for the team that people can turn to when they need help getting something done.

Make our events great

You’ll help plan and execute internal and external events, from team gatherings to events for founders and the broader NFX community.

That means everything from catering, AV, guest check-in, office set up and teardown. Some events take place outside normal business hours, and you’ll occasionally need to be there to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Keep our technology and operations running smoothly

You’ll be the primary point of contact for our external IT support provider and coordinate our day-to-day IT, security, and privacy operations.

You’ll manage our mobile device management system, coordinate support requests, help employees troubleshoot straightforward technology issues, and make sure new employees have everything they need on day one.

You’re highly comfortable with technology and quick to learn new tools. We use Mac computers with Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude, and a growing number of tools we build ourselves. We’re an AI-forward firm, and we expect everyone at NFX to look for ways technology can make their work faster and better.

Being in the Office

NFX is an in-person culture, and employees are expected to work from our Hayes Valley office at least three days a week. Because some members of the team are here every day—and because creating a great workplace experience is at the heart of this role—the Workplace Experience Manager is an in-office role five days a week.

There will also occasionally be events or building issues that require availability outside normal business hours. Some aspects of the role involve setting up events, moving supplies, and other physical tasks, so you should be comfortable lifting up to 40 pounds.

Benefits
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for you and your dependents

  • 100% employer-paid life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance

  • 401(k) with generous employer match

  • Flexible time off and 14 paid holidays per year

  • Four months of paid parental leave

  • Mobile data credit

  • Commuter benefits

  • A high-caliber, principled, ambitious—and genuinely fun—team

  • A great office in Hayes Valley, just off Market Street and easily accessible by BART and Muni

If this sounds like you, we’d love to meet you!
