Job Summary / Purpose:
The Workers Compensation Specialist is a skilled, highly motivated individual with a history of high performance and creativity to support the area of Workers Compensation, using the latest technology to process claims, evaluating incident reports to determine accuracy and completeness, ensure adequate investigation takes place with the partnership of your assigned claims adjuster to get injured employee back to work in a safe & timely manner, and ensures their assigned region is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This individual will partner with internal stakeholders and caregiver facing roles to drive 80% or higher close claim rate and provide guidance and training for workplace safety. Establish relationships with key members of the organization to enhance workplace safety and reduce workers compensation claims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Manage workers' compensation claims from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
● Provide support and guidance to injured employees, ensuring they receive the necessary medical treatment and support.
● Coordinate with medical providers to ensure appropriate care and treatment for injured employees.
● Work closely with our HR team to ensure compliance with all workers' compensation laws and regulations.
● Maintain accurate records of all workers' compensation claims and related documentation.
● Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
● Collaborate with our marketing team to enhance our brand through positive employee experiences and testimonials.
Required Skills, Education and Certifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance related field, Human Resources, related discipline from an accredited 4-year university or a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in multi-jurisdictional workers compensation.
● In-depth knowledge of workers' compensation laws and regulations.
● Able to develop strong working relationships, facilitate change processes, and effectively communicate to achieve organizational goals.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
● Work closely with adjustors to verify all new and established WC injuries/claims per protocol.
● Prepare claims and documentation for filing.
● Point of contact for all adjusters and case managers.
● Maintains knowledge of new and existing regulations for your region which could affect claims handling procedures.
● Provide coverage in the absence of staff.
● Prepare and provide solutions for outstanding claims during quarterly claims review.
● Maintain up to date recordkeeping for year end reporting such as OSHA 300 logs.
● All other duties as assigned
● Must be proficient in MS Office including MS Word, Excel & Outlook; Google Suite or other software including running ad hoc reports/queries.
● Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Skills, Education and Certifications:
● Multi-state experience pertinent to federal, state and local laws, codes and safety regulations including the State Labor Code, Workers’ Compensation and Americans with Disabilities Act laws, OSHA, and employment laws, procedures and regulations.
● Professional certification preferred (Workers' Compensation Claims Administration, Workers' Compensation Claims Professional, etc.)
● Understanding of customer service techniques and procedures and the ability to apply them in achieving quality and customer service goals.
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to travel approximately up to 10% of the time
● Ability to lift and carry up to 15-20 pounds
● Ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged period of time throughout the work day
● Ability to use standard office equipment such as personal computer, laptop, telephone, photocopy machine, etc.
