OverviewThe Workday Central Sustain Principal Solution Architect proactively and holistically leads and supports EA activities that guide the development and management of a portfolio of solutions. They understand the concepts of business goals, objectives and business outcomes, business capabilities, value streams, and business processes and their importance in solution architecture. The solutions architect provides the necessary leadership, analysis, and design tasks related to supporting the development of technology solutions to ensure that solutions meet business needs and align with architectural governance and standards. They create deliverables for managing the organization's portfolio of "to be" and "as is" solutions — including systems (applications, processes, information, and technology), shared infrastructure services, and shared application services and components to enable and drive targeted business outcomes.
The Workday Central Sustain Principal Solution Architect partners with business leads and stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable, secure, supportable technical solutions across the Workday ecosystem. This role must have in depth understanding of current and upcoming Workday capabilities, as well as understand impacts that changes/enhancements will have on existing configuration, business processes, and data elements across the platform. This role partners with HR/Finance leaders, IT, security, and integration/reporting teams to ensure a cohesive tenant design, high-quality releases, and measurable business outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Works closely with Workday Finance, Supply Chain and HR business leads to connect business problems and requirements to Workday technical capabilities. Leads discovery workshops; capture requirements, process maps, and design decisions (future state, controls, and impacts).
- Translates requirements into technical designs, estimates, and delivery plans.
- Creates and governs functional design artifacts (solution design, BP design, security design, data/worktags strategy, reporting strategy, test strategy).
- Establishes, manages and maintains configuration standards and guardrails (naming conventions, shared objects, condition rules, calculated fields, dependencies).
- Guides tenant configuration approach: business processes, security roles, org structures, eligibility rules, compensation frameworks, and validations.
- Drives test planning and execution (SIT/UAT), defect triage, and readiness; ensure traceability from requirement → design → test.
- Creates standards for reporting solution and oversee reporting governance.
- Work with functional areas to guide inbound/outbound data strategy (loads, conversions, incremental updates, validation).
- Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
- Experience in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree - 10+ years of relevant experience without a degree
- Workday Pro certification/s (Preferred)
Required qualifications

• Proven delivery leadership in a Workday core area (FIN, SCM, HCM).
• Experience leading technical design, estimates, and execution across multiple workstreams.
• Strong troubleshooting skills (integration failures, data issues, security access, performance).
• Demonstrated ability to lead functional design decisions, manage trade-offs, and influence stakeholders.
• Experience with end-to-end application lifecycle management: discovery, design, configure, test, deploy.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred qualifications
• Experience with data conversion at scale and complex cutovers.
• Exposure to Prism Analytics, Extend, Payroll interfaces, Benefits/Finance integrations, or IAM (SSO).
• Exposure to integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Studio), reporting (advanced reports, calc fields), and/or Prism.
• Functional architecture and process design (fit-to-standard mindset).

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay rate for Full Time employment is:$106,080.00-$176,820.80. Additional compensation may be available for this role such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
