Position Summary

The Workday Configuration Lead serves as the functional and technical expert for Workday Compensation and Advanced Compensation. This role is responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting complex compensation solutions that align with business objectives while maintaining system integrity, scalability, and compliance.

This role partners closely with HR, Total Rewards, Payroll, Talent, Recruiting, Finance, and Technology teams to deliver innovative compensation solutions that improve the associate experience and enable strategic business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Workday Configuration

  • Lead the design, configuration, and ongoing optimization of Workday Compensation and Advanced Compensation.
  • Configure and maintain:
    • Compensation Plans
    • Compensation Grades
    • Grade Profiles
    • Salary Ranges
    • Eligibility Rules
    • Compensation Packages
    • Merit Cycles
    • Bonus Plans
    • Lump Sum Awards
    • One-Time Payments
  • Configure business processes related to compensation transactions.
  • Develop calculated fields, condition rules, validations, and custom reports supporting compensation administration.
  • Design secure and scalable solutions following Workday best practices.

Annual Compensation Planning

  • Lead configuration and support for annual compensation events including:
    • Merit planning
    • Bonus planning
    • Promotional increases
    • Market adjustments
    • Off-cycle compensation events
  • Configure Advanced Compensation planning worksheets, budgets, approval workflows, and eligibility rules.
  • Support compensation modeling and planning activities with Total Rewards.

Solution Design

  • Translate business requirements into scalable Workday solutions.
  • Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Evaluate impacts of new Workday releases and recommend adoption of new functionality.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture and governance standards.

Testing & Deployment

  • Develop comprehensive testing strategies for new functionality.
  • Execute unit, integration, regression, and support user acceptance testing.
  • Support Workday biannual releases.
  • Coordinate production deployments and post-production validation.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Create and maintain Workday reports and dashboards supporting compensation administration.
  • Build calculated fields supporting reporting requirements.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner with:
    • Total Rewards
    • HR Business Partners
    • Payroll
    • Talent Management
    • Recruiting
    • Finance
    • Technology teams
  • Provide expert consultation on Workday capabilities and best practices.
  • Support issue resolution and root cause analysis for complex configuration challenges.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure configurations comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for configuration, testing, and support procedures.
  • Participate in change management and Workday governance processes.
  • Ensure appropriate security configuration and segregation of duties.

Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor Workday roadmap and emerging functionality.
  • Recommend enhancements that improve efficiency, user experience, and business value.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes through automation.
  • Mentor junior configuration professionals and share technical expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Human Resources, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of Workday configuration experience.
  • 5+ years configuring Workday Compensation.
  • 3+ years configuring Advanced Compensation.
  • Experience supporting enterprise annual compensation planning cycles.
  • Strong understanding of Workday security, business processes, condition rules, and calculated fields.
  • Experience with EIBs and Workday reporting.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday Pro certification in Compensation or Advanced Compensation.
  • Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting organizations with 10,000+ employees.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
