This short-term (2-week) internship is designed as an educational exposure program for high school students interested in Human Resources and business operations. Over two weeks, interns will participate in structured learning activities, job shadowing, and guided assignments to better understand how HR supports employees and organizational success.

This opportunity is not intended to replace paid employment and will focus exclusively on observation, training, and skill development. Through this program, interns will participate in on-the-job training within our nationally recognized social enterprise network, gaining essential work readiness skills, exploring career interests, and building confidence in a supportive and inclusive work environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Shadow HR team members to observe daily HR operations and workflows
  • Participate in introductory sessions on topics such as:
    • What is HR Operations?
    • Employee onboarding basics
    • Workplace policies and compliance
  • Assist with mock or sample HR tasks, such as:
    • Reviewing sample onboarding checklists
    • Practicing data entry in a test or training environment (if applicable)
    • Drafting sample communications (e.g., welcome emails)
  • Attend team meetings or info sessions to observe cross-functional collaboration
  • Work on a guided mini-project, such as:
    • Presenting ideas to improve employee experience
    • Creating a simple HR process map
  • Receive feedback and coaching from HR professionals

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Interest in Human Resources, business, or working with people
  • Strong willingness to learn and participate actively
  • Basic communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a workplace setting
  • Must exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Must have good English written skills necessary to perform job duties.
  • Must follow all safety procedures and correct safety issues, if possible. 
  • Able to operate a computer and Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrates responsible behavior, initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing assignments efficiently.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current high school student (Junior or Senior preferred)
  • Must be a resident of Broward, Miami-Dade or Monroe Counties.

Identifies and resolves problems on time, develops alternative solutions, and uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Spanish/ French-Creole is a plus but not required. Use appropriate terminology appropriate to the intended audience. Edits written work for spelling and grammar. Speaks clearly so others can understand. Demonstrates listening to and understanding information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences and getting clarification.

Ethics:

Maintains high standards of ethical conduct, exhibits honesty and integrity, and refrains from theft-related, dishonest, or unethical behavior. Works with integrity and maintains confidentiality.

Planning/Organizing:

Prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans.

Accepts responsibility and demonstrates responsible behavior, initiative, and tenacity; Works with minimal supervision and is dependable.

Professionalism: 

Follows all corporate and Occupational Safety and Health Policies and Procedures and responds to management directions.

Demonstrates accuracy, completeness, and neatness. Look for ways to improve and promote quality. Applies feedback to improve performance. Monitors own work to ensure quality.

Attendance/Punctuality:

Report to work as scheduled and on time and remain on the job throughout regular work hours. Notify the supervisor of lateness, absence, or if an urgent reason for leaving work arises.

Teamwork: 

Works and interacts with others to accomplish overall group goals; solicits feedback to maximize results.

Safety and Security:

Observe safety and security procedures; Report any safety deficiency to the immediate supervisor. 

Uses equipment and materials properly. Knows what “Material Safety Data Sheets” are and where they are kept.

Personal Characteristic:

Dress in appropriate business attire. Professionally conduct self, takes the initiative, is dependable, accurate, and takes pride in work. Present a positive attitude towards work and avoid gossip or negative conversations toward work or others.

While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, and crouch. Carry, push, and pull. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
