Women's Safety & Support Specialist

U.S.VETS is seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Women's Safety & Support Specialist to support women veterans and other at-risk women residing in our supportive housing community. This role combines community safety, resident engagement, crisis prevention, mentorship, and housing support to help residents thrive in a safe and welcoming environment.

As part of a 24/7 residential services team, you will build positive relationships with residents, conduct wellness and safety checks, respond to concerns using de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques, and connect residents to supportive services. This is a no-touch position focused on prevention, communication, and resident-centered support.

• Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment for women veterans and at-risk women.
• Conduct routine safety rounds, wellness checks, and home visits.
• Build trusting relationships and provide mentorship, encouragement, and resource referrals.
• Support residents experiencing stress, crisis, or conflict using trauma-informed and de-escalation practices.
• Partner with case managers, clinicians, and property management to address resident needs.
• Encourage participation in life skills workshops, support groups, and community-building activities.
• Assist with housing stability efforts, including lease-up activities, documentation collection, and resident engagement.
• Document incidents, observations, and resident interactions in electronic systems.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with appropriate staff and community resources when needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred.
• Experience in social services, supportive housing, behavioral health, peer support, outreach, domestic violence services, crisis intervention, community engagement, or related fields preferred.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals who have experienced trauma, homelessness, or housing instability.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements.
• Peer Support certification is a plus or willingness to obtain after hire.

Work Environment

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a supportive housing environment, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions
• Position is part of a 24/7 coverage team and requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including day, swing, overnight, weekends, and holidays
• Frequent interaction with individuals in crisis or under stress; requires use of trauma-informed practices, patience, and professional boundaries
• Requires balancing enforcement of safety policies with compassionate peer support, ensuring veterans feel safe, respected, and empowered to achieve independence
