Credit Risk assesses, permits, and manages credit and counterparty risks on an industry, client, geographic, and transaction basis. Credit risk is the risk of loss arising from the default of a client or counterparty and credit exposure arises through underwriting, lending, and trading activities with and for clients and counterparties, as well as from a range of operating services such as cash management and clearing activities. We're independent within Corporate Risk Management, reporting to the firm's Chief Risk Officer (CRO). Our practices are designed to preserve the independence and integrity of decision making
As a Credit Risk - Associate within Corporate Investment Bank (CIB) Wholesale Credit Risk, you will have responsibility for diligence, risk grading, structuring, and on-going monitoring and management of a diverse and complex portfolio of risks. Applicable client exposures include high grade and leveraged loans, asset-based structured financing, extensive derivatives and securities trading relationships, and intra-day liquidity facilities. You will serve as the Credit Officer and primary coverage for credit relationships as well as develop the analytical skills of junior team members.
Job Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for lending activities and trading related credit exposures with the Japan based companies including their overseas subsidiaries across the spectrum of Corporates and Financial Institution sectors
  • Perform customer due diligence and financial analysis and summarize in written credit approval memos and reviews
  • Review and approve trading activity, including recommending margin requirements as well as structural enhancements
  • Develop and recommend appropriate structural solutions to mitigate risk on structured financings, and perform cash flow analysis under stressed scenarios
  • Set and communicate credit exposure appetite across trading products utilizing internal exposure methodologies
  • Oversee legal negotiations for traded products
  • Assess creditworthiness of clients and assign appropriate credit ratings
  • Maintain updated credit research on a portfolio of clients
  • Demonstrate ability to mentor/guide junior resources. Manage own workload and analyst's workload, delegate with appropriate guidance and ensure deadlines are understood and met, and where needed, confidently escalate to senior managers
  • Lead group wide efficiency projects and assist in training and developing analysts
  • Drive and participate in client due diligence meetings


Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Credit risk experience required
  • Some accounting and corporate finance coursework
  • Strong interest in client interaction and possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment
  • Be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Japanese and English language skills required


Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • At least 3 years of work experience in financial services preferred (investment banking or similar)
