WGL- Corrosion Control (Specialist/Senior)
The Corrosion Control (Specialist/Senior) supports the safety and reliability of Washington Gas’ system by developing and maintaining corrosion control training, procedures, and operational guidelines. This role provides expert technical support and troubleshooting to field personnel and serves as project lead for key initiatives such as CP interference monitoring and remediation, atmospheric corrosion inspections, MOS surveys, and evaluating corrosion‑related leaks.
You’ll work closely with supervisors on scheduling, remediation planning, design, mapping, and maintaining cathodic protection systems that protect our distribution and transmission pipelines, gate stations, plants, and storage facilities. The position may include periodic on‑call responsibilities and stepping in for supervisory duties when needed.
What You'll Do:
• Participate in the development, review, update, and enforcement of corrosion control policies, procedures, training modules and conduct training.
• Utilize various computer applications (ESRI, Open Grid/Work Manager, Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) or CPDM, Opti main, Corview/Cortalk, etc.) to gather information, analyze data and produce reports, including progress, trends and forecasts.
• Participate in training the Corrosion department’s employees, including designing and improving existing training programs, modules, and technical reference guides.
• Monitor employee and corrosion contractor operator qualifications, certifications and performance.
• Collaborate with trade allies, corrosion contractor crews, alliance partners, designers, Corporate Engineering, Gas Supply Operations and Field Operations personnel to ensure new and existing cathodic protection systems are properly installed and maintained. Serve as project manager for corrosion-related projects on the system.
• Provide oversight of contractor personnel performance and project deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with all Federal, state and local codes and works with other departments to satisfy the corrosion control requirements of the company’s Transmission and Distribution Integrity Management Programs.
• Act as a subject matter expert, provide technical support to employees, and represent the Company’s interests before internal and external audiences to include expert witness testimony, contractual negotiations, and interact with PSC, and SCC representatives.
• Perform duties of the Corrosion Control Supervisor, as needed.
• At the request of the Corrosion Control Supervisor, participate in field, safety and vehicle inspections and perform other tasks as needed.
What You Bring:
• High School Diploma/GED required
• 4+ Years of related natural gas industry experience, preferably related to corrosion control, required
• NACE CP 1 (Cathodic Protection Tester) certification required
• Project Management experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership, ability to reconcile conflicting priorities, and experience leading projects to completion.
• Strong understanding of corrosion control theory and extensive experience with galvanic and impressed current CP systems, including use of corrosion control equipment and troubleshooting CP on distribution and transmission piping.
• Working knowledge of pipeline construction, replacement, operations, maintenance, emergency response procedures, and Federal, state, and local codes.
• Proven mechanical aptitude (originally listed twice), strong planning and scheduling skills, and ability to analyze and solve business problems.
• Ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences, strong verbal and written communication, and demonstrated customer service skills.
• Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and business partners.
• Proficient in computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, for researching, retrieving, sharing, and presenting business information.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
Compensation:
We offer a competitive salary range of $92,400 - $132,750 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
