Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is a statewide not for profit provider agency that partners with individuals, their families, and the surrounding communities to create environments that support long-term health and wellness.

MHC has an immediate full-time opening (Monday - Friday , 8:30 am - 4:30 pm) for a Wellness Specialist II within our Independence Center in the Waterbury area. This position will use modeling and experiential techniques to provide skill building opportunities in the areas of health and wellness, advocacy, employment, social/community, daily living skills, art, and gardening within the Independence Center recovery resource center environment and MHC residential environments. This position will also provide case management services to program participants within the Independence Center recovery resource center environment.

Starting Salary: $20.00 per hour. MHC offers a competitive benefit package which includes:

Requirements

The Wellness Specialist II responsibilities include:

• Provide day to day program supports including, but not limited to, front desk coverage, answering calls, supervising the buzzer system, greeting participants and visitors, orienting the participants to the center, scheduling and data collection, all aspects of the culinary unit including grant-related needs, cleanliness of all areas in the center, obtaining needed supplies, and monitoring of the computer lab and teaching computer literacy skills.
• Design and implement workshops and activities based on participant choices and interests which help to improve skills related to physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental health, including but not limited to nutrition, art, gardening, coping, fitness, budgeting, assertiveness, building friendships, conversation skills, leisure time, advocacy, community supports, and improving personal communication.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation (workshops, interactions, and case management, etc.) within the organization’s electronic health record (EHR). Maintain encounter notes, attendance, and any other required paperwork in EHR.
• Routine and consistent ability to travel statewide to conduct and assist with assigned workshop programming.
• Required to transport program supplies (with a weight between approx. 5 to 30 pounds), and/or other foodbank, kitchen, and/or art of wellbeing materials in personal or company vehicle locally and within the state to MHC residential sites.
• May be required to transport participants in personally owned vehicle
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, professional relationships with program participants, other staff, and community agencies or partners to facilitate grant related programs when applicable.
• May provide case management and referral services to program participants at the Independence Center.
• Will maintain an assigned caseload supporting approximately 30+ participants. Caseload responsibilities will include but are not limited to ensuring releases, updates, confirming receipt of services and any other protocol acknowledgement.
• Responsible for engaging participants in activities and participation including conducting outreach calls at least once per month for individuals within assigned case load who have not been attending.
• May be assigned ancillary caseloads or assignments related to United Way quarterly goal achievement assessments, bi-annual surveys and year -end reporting requirements.
• Contribute to completion of monthly calendar by scheduling workshops and providing content.
• Work collaboratively within and across the service system exercising good independent judgment. (MHC teams, interagency teams, family members, program participants, concerned others where appropriate) to assist individuals in reaching their wellness goals.
• Responsible for conducting health and safety drills and monthly inspections as assigned.

Experience/Education:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in a mental health or human services setting preferred.
• Experience in supportive arts programming preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and registration.
