Wellbeing & Safety Advisor (Staff Wellbeing)

UOW is seeking an experienced Wellbeing & Safety Advisor with strong psychosocial risk management and influencing skills. You will partner with leaders, faculties and divisions to identify psychosocial hazards, assess risk and implement practical, evidence-based controls across a complex teaching, research and professional services environment. 

You will provide credible advice, facilitate consultation and constructively influence decisions on work design, organisational change, workload, workplace relationships and other psychosocial hazards. The role also contributes to UOW’s broader WHS management system, incident response and continuous improvement activities. 

• Lead psychosocial hazard identification, risk assessment, control planning and review. 
• Advise, coach and constructively challenge leaders to improve psychological health and safety outcomes. 
• Facilitate effective consultation with workers, leaders and representative groups. 
• Translate legislation, risk data and evidence into clear, practical organisational solutions. 
• Support WHS systems, incident management, organisational change and capability-building initiatives. 

The University’s Wellbeing and Safety team comprises of 12 health and safety professionals to ensure the University continues to have a safe work environment for staff, students and visitors. 

• Psychosocial risk expertise: Demonstrated experience identifying, assessing and controlling psychosocial hazards in a complex organisation, with sound knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice and contemporary frameworks. 
• Influence and stakeholder leadership: Proven ability to build credibility and influence senior leaders, managers, workers and representative groups, including coaching, constructive challenge and facilitation of complex conversations. 
• Practical risk management: Ability to analyse complex issues and data, identify systemic causes, and design, implement and evaluate practical, evidence-based controls. 
• Communication: Highly developed written, verbal, workshop facilitation and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex matters clearly and persuasively. 
• Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in work health and safety, psychology, organisational psychology, human resources, behavioural science, risk management or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and substantial relevant experience.
