About the opportunity

This role has become available as a result of an internal career development opportunity within our team.

This role will see you working alongside participants to support and enable them, their families and carers to address their psychosocial, emotional and alcohol and other drug support needs. You will be walking alongside participants at every step of their time in the program; from the initial conversation, to delivering one on one service navigation, care planning, education and capacity building.

This role provides support across our three program sites in Benalla, Wangaratta and Mansfield, so the successful candidate will be willing and able to work from each location as required.

About you
This role is identified for someone who feels comfortable to draw on their personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery to empower their peers on their own recovery journey.

You’re empathetic and relish opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in our community. You will also have the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including alongside team members who have lived and living experience of mental health challenges or as carers of loved ones who do.

You will also need:

  • Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work experience in the Mental Health Sector or Intentional Peer Support Training
  • 100 points of identification
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Workers Orientation module certificate – free online course

About the service 

Wellways, Albury Wodonga Health and Australian Community Support Organisation (ACSO) are working together to provide mental health and wellbeing supports in Benalla & Wangaratta to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.   

The Benalla, Mansfield & Wangaratta (BWM) Mental Health and Wellbeing Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.  

More than ever before, we are working with the local community and people who have a personal experience of mental health issues and recovery to build these services so they are the best they can be. Our services are co-designed by consumers, carers and the local community.

Skills Required
