Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is an independent non-profit association comprised of human rights lawyers and jurists united in our belief that those who have experienced human rights violations and international crimes should receive targeted, survivor-centred, gender-competent and trauma-informed support to access the justice they deserve. LAW’s team operates on the ground in conflict-affected contexts combining national and international expertise. We work directly with survivors and their communities, building their capacity to meaningfully engage with justice and advocacy processes. Alongside this, we provide technical assistance to strengthen justice institutions to ensure they are equipped to deliver justice and work with legislators to promote accountability and the rule of law.  

Across 18 countries, LAW implements creative accountability and justice strategies, including strategic litigation at national, regional and international levels.

THE POSITION
 

LAW recognises the importance of mental health and psychosocial wellbeing in promoting a safe, healthy, and productive environment for its staff and/or beneficiaries. We are seeking a creative and experienced practitioner in response to join our growing teams to further strengthen psychosocial support by engaging with individual and collective mental wellbeing through prevention and support initiatives.

You will join our consultancy roster and will be engaged as and when required in promoting resilience and self-care, utilising compassionate techniques such as art therapy, etc., to help staff express and manage challenges.

This role involves raising awareness and providing toolkits for mental health across our programmes and to staff and clients.

Where:
Flexible, can be based remotely or in person. Travel may be required depending on assignment. Supporting team in Kyiv.

Contract:
12-month framework agreement, renewable subject to performance and funding.

Expected Level of Effort:

The estimated level of effort under the Framework Agreement is expected to include:


  • Two in-person group wellbeing sessions per year for the Kyiv-based team (approximately six staff members), with each session lasting one working day.
  • Three to five individual counselling sessions per year, provided upon staff request.
  • Individual crisis counselling and psychological support, as required, in response to critical incidents or other emergency situations.

The above level of effort is indicative only and may be adjusted depending on LAW's operational needs and the demand for support services. 


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


The Psychologist will deliver the following deliverables:


  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide confidential support and counselling to individuals or groups, in person or remotely as and when required. 
  • Design and deliver psychosocial first aid training to teams. 
  • Facilitate debriefing and clinical support measures both prior or post missions to conflict countries, focusing on stress management, resilience and coping mechanisms and mental health awareness. 
  • First point of call for support crisis response initiatives e.g. in the event of a critical incident. 
  • Collaborate with HR and senior management to ensure holistic support, including in a crisis.
  • To build staff or community resilience through psychosocial education and stress management strategies. 
  • Identify and refer individuals or groups needing specialist mental health support and care. 
  • Develop and implement wellbeing activities and awareness campaigns e.g, workshops, mindfulness sessions, and wellbeing days. 

ABOUT YOU


  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or relevant fields. 
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in providing therapy and mental health and psychosocial support or counseling in an International NGO is preferred.  
  • Demonstrated experience working in volatile or conflict-affected environments, responding to gender-sensitive, humanitarian, development, or community-based contexts. 
  • Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma-informed care, or stress management is preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards. 
  • Strong facilitation skills to customise and tailor interventions to the needs of different individuals and groups. 
  • Awareness and respect for cultural differences and the ability to incorporate these into therapy sessions.

Skills Required
