Summary Statement:
You will play a critical role joining our expansive team in building and maintaining our leading edge Kubernetes hosting environments focusing on RedHat OpenShift and supporting our existing enterprise Linux infrastructure.
What you will be doing:
Systems Engineers implement, support, maintain, and manage IT services, including networking, IT security, email, and disaster recovery. Systems Engineers provide advanced technical support for desktop, server, and networking issues. Systems Engineers ensure all IT services are properly maintained and upgraded, including anti-virus, backups, imaging, and patching. Systems Engineers provide subject matter expertise for both hardware and software.
As a Penske Web Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for building and operating our Kubernetes and Linux based systems maintained by Penske Truck Leasing (PTL) IT Delivery Services (ITDS). You will be responsible for project planning and management, as well as system implementation and documentation. You will also be responsible for system improvements as well as disaster recovery in relation to the Penske’s Web Services environment.
Penske Responsibilities:
• Monitor existing Kubernetes and Linux systems to ensure structural integrity
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Kubernetes and associated middleware platforms
and components.
• Provide technical direction to IT support staff
• Manages and monitors all installed systems and infrastructure for the organization to be in line with company guidelines or SOP (standard operating procedure).
• Assists in the coordination of various teams testing and evaluating for the development of design and its implementation of the best output.
• Installs, configures, and tests operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
• Ensures the highest level of systems and infrastructure availability.
• Responsible for building and operating the Kubernetes Web Services and Linux based systems maintained by PTL ITDS. This includes; project planning and management, system implementation, monitoring and maintaining documentation.
• Build and maintain leading edge technical systems. This includes planning, analysis and design as well as quality assurance. Perform process analysis and improvement in relation to management of the environment.
• Responsible for maintaining and implementing disaster recovery plan documentation, system performance and availability measures, testing and coordination of new systems and maintaining system backups.
• Provide 7x24x365 support for the PTL ITDS Web Environments.
• Build and document the secondary systems used to provide PTL ITDS Web Services environments.
• Determine and Implement automated process scripts using Ansible, Terraform or other IaC tools
• Maintain automated monitoring and alerting processes for the PTL ITDS Web environment.
• Coordinate system changes and deploys within other IT groups
• Support Authentication environments both on premise and in the cloud.
• Make recommendations on Developer code deployments and rollbacks.
• Make recommendations on system repair priorities and methods.
• Managing Product/Software Configurations for enhancements in desktop, lab, and production (Dev, UAT, Prod) server environments.
• Developing and maintaining documentation; participating in the development of departmental technical procedures and operational guidelines.
QualificationsPenske Qualifications:
• Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field preferred. If no degree, then at least 3 years of specific (function) experience required.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on systems engineering and IT support in production Kubernetes containerized environments.
• Advanced level Linux / Middleware skills.
• Foundational knowledge of GIT, Kubernetes, Docker/Podman (containerized workloads)
• Experience in performance tuning, performance problem resolution and managing web hosting partners is required
• Proven track record of success
• Experience creating automated scripts
• Knowledge of enterprise networks and structure
• Cloud knowledge
• Must be able to lead and manage a technical project
• Nice-to-Have skills include GitOps, OpenShift, Java/Python containerized support experience and foundational OIDC authentication knowledge
• Good level of understanding of networks, security and databases.
• Linux both on premise and AWS. Open source and purchased middleware products such as webservers, application servers, database servers, api management gateways, single-sign-on software, identity management software, etl software, collaboration software, etc.
