The Opportunity
Esko is a leading provider of software, hardware (Flexo platemaking machines), and services to global clients, enabling them to produce the best packaging for billions of consumers.
Reporting to the Manager Software Engineering, The Web Developer is a newly created hybrid role with 2-3 days in the Itzehoe office (60km from Hamburg) each week and the remainder at home.
The Web Developer will develop a complete IoT Machine-Learning Program from concept through to finished software application. This will allow the collection, visualisation and analysis of data from potentially >5000 machines around the world into the Esko cloud, thus enabling automatic monitoring, self-calibration and improved servicing and support.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
- Collaboration in international teams, contribution to the software specification and design discussions within a cross-functional team
- Independent performing the conception, design, programming and installation of software solutions
- Developing an IoT program which enables statistical process control to collect, monitor, display, and control manufacturing processes by analyzing data in real time
- Developing an IoT program which can initiate an automated action to increase the quality of the process, for example through self-calibrating measures or self-adjustment of camera systems etc. based on the collected machine data
- Developing an IoT program which in addition enables us to perform an effective machine service by e.g. dispatching correct spare parts for efficient maintenance.
- Documentation of the development process and software functions, establishment of a troubleshooting routine

The Ideal Candidate
- At least 2-3 years of software development with a focus on the Front-End (React JS, Typescript, Java etc). Some connection to machinery/hardware would be advantageous but isn't critical
- Strong verbal & written communication (fluent German and ideally advanced English), cross-functional collaboration,
- Bachelor’s or Masters’ degree in Computer Science, or a related field is advantageous
