Serves as the primary point of contact for all tax withholding and information reporting issues across multiple businesses. Ensures compliance with US and/or international tax regulations as they apply to tax withholding and information reporting obligations. Serves as point of escalation when conflict or issues arise related to customer tax reporting.
Primary Responsibilities:- Interpret and apply applicable tax regulations and raise exceptions or areas of ambiguity as required.
- Understand applicable regulations and internal policies and their impact on the business and payments.
- File extensions, information reporting files, and tax returns with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service).
- Resolve IRS notices and letters.
- Review, update and/or create procedures related to tax documentation and withholding and reporting.
- Assist with all issues related to payee documentation.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
The position is responsible for day-to-day direction of the department and requires a thorough knowledge of business and applicable IRS regulations. The position works with uncertainty with discretionary solutions, possessing moderate risk to organization.
Education and Experience Required:Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years higher education and/work experience, including a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
