Job Responsibilities:
Mission of Position:
Responsible for leading warranty return part analysis (RPA) for transfer case components, supervising a small team of warranty technicians, and partnering with warranty engineers to identify failure modes, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings through clear analysis reports to internal engineering teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead end-to-end warranty return part analysis for transfer case assemblies and components, including teardown, inspection, and documentation.
  • Determine and document failure modes and potential root causes using structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
  • Supervise, coach, and prioritize daily work for 3-4 warranty technicians; ensure quality, productivity, and adherence to standard work.
  • Coordinate closely with warranty engineers, design engineers, manufacturing, supplier quality, and test teams to align on analysis approach, findings, and next steps.
  • Develop and deliver clear part return analysis reports (including photos, measurements, observations, and conclusions) for engineering review and customer communication.
  • Maintain traceability of parts and data: sample identification, chain of custody, test/measurement records, and report revision control.
  • Support containment, corrective actions, and verification activities by providing evidence, hypotheses, and follow-up analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement of lab methods, fixtures, measurement techniques, and turnaround time; apply Lean/Six Sigma tools where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements, 5S standards, and proper handling/disposal of fluids, chemicals, and scrap.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and ensure team adherence to housekeeping and safety expectations.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, or Electrical).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in warranty analysis, failure analysis, quality engineering, product engineering, or automotive driveline systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading technicians or lab/shop personnel (direct or indirect leadership) lab/shop personnel (direct or indirect leadership).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical inspection methods (e.g., visual inspection, dimensional measurement, surface wear evaluation) and documentation best practices.
  • Ability to write clear technical reports and present findings to engineers and customers.
  • Proficiency with common office tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic data analysis.

  • Develop and maintain a responsive and cooperative working relationship with internal and external customers.

Work Environment:
Office environment; Work is performed in a lab and/or shop environment and may include exposure to oils/fluids, solvents, and metal components. Role requires consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety procedures. Ability to lift and move components and fixtures (with assistance or lifting devices as required) and stand for extended periods may be required.
