The Role
Reports to the Costume Shop Manager to coordinate and track activity for the traveling wardrobe crews, supporting the costume/wardrobe department and show staff of all touring shows with costumes.  Assists in the development of the overall care and maintenance of touring show wardrobe including the evaluation/recommendation of personnel assigned to the touring wardrobe departments.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the Costume Shop Manager and Director of Costumes in all matters of show support for each touring show in regard to wardrobe needs.
  • Provides technical assistance to traveling wardrobe crews including instruction, training, and storage solutions.
  • Provides feedback to the costume department on the condition of wardrobe on the road to coordinate solutions and/or the need for production of new costumes.
  • Assists in gathering information from various wardrobe crews and unit managers in regards to ongoing maintenance and refurb needs. 
  • Assists in gathering pricing when requested for refurb items, new items or internal items.
  • Develops cleaning, care and general maintenance standards and procedures for each show and their respective needs, as well as establishes the above for each new show as it is developed.
  • Responsible for creating/maintaining an ongoing master refurb list with all shows and all anticipated projects including maintaining pricing or estimates for each project in coordination with the Costume Shop Manager and/or Director of Costumes.
  • Responsible for follow-through on all unit requests from stock, or costume and supply orders.
  • Evaluates the personnel and recommends training as required and assists in recruiting qualified touring wardrobe personnel.
  • Accepts all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor when needed.

  • DESIGNATED FUNCTION: Sitting - 30%, Walking - 20%, Standing - 20%, Bending - 10%, Kneeling - 10%, Lifting - 10%
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Hand Manipulation, Reaching, Grasping, Visual. Auditory, Driving
  • DESIGNATED FUNCTION: Mathematics - High, Reading - High, Verbal - High, Written - High, Reasoning - High

Education, Skills & Experience Requirements

  • Must have 1-3 years experience working with touring productions and 3-5 years experience working in wardrobe for large-scale theatrical productions.
  • Must have superior organizational and tracking skills.
  • Must have the ability to train or instruct wardrobe crews in proper methods of costume care and repair, including laundry and dry cleaning methods, hand and machine sewing, and craft work.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and be able to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are necessary as well as the ability to read, analyze, and follow written instruction.
  • The ability to provide logical solutions to problems and to interpret a variety of requests in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
  • Must be available to drive and to travel to out of town locations with little notice and remain on-site for extended periods of time for new production as needed.
