Tax Director
Position Summary
The Tax Director provides enterprise-wide tax leadership for PrimeSource Brands and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax provision, tax compliance, tax planning, and tax controversy management. This role partners closely with executive leadership, Treasury, Accounting, Legal, and external advisors to ensure tax compliance, manage risk, optimize the company’s tax position, and support strategic business initiatives. The Tax Director also leads complex transactions, strengthens tax processes and controls.

Strategic Business & Tax Leadership
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of PrimeSource Brands’ business operations, legal entity structure, capital structure, and growth strategy.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on the tax implications of financing activities, restructurings, acquisitions, and operational decisions.
- Proactively assess tax risks and opportunities associated with strategic initiatives and provide clear, practical guidance.
Tax Provision & Financial Reporting (ASC 740)
- Lead the year-end and interim tax provision process, including coordination with external advisors.
- Oversee preparation, review, and documentation of ASC 740 calculations and disclosures.
- Manage significant and judgmental provision items. Evaluation of changes in estimates, uncertain tax positions, and valuation allowance considerations.
Tax Compliance Oversight
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local income and non-income tax returns.
- Direct extension and filing strategies in coordination with external advisors.
- Lead and review complex compliance activities, coordination with external providers, capitalization file updates, W‑9 collection, and follow-up with ownership groups.
- Ensure consistency across tax returns, tax provision, and financial statements.
Debt, Capital Structure & Transactional Tax
- Provide tax leadership on new debt issuances, refinancings, and significant loan modifications, and revolver paydowns.
- Evaluate tax implications of pledge entities and intercompany financing structures.
Indirect Tax, Sales & Use, and Business Taxes
- Oversee indirect tax matters, including sales, use, lease, franchise, business license, and occupational taxes.
- Lead key indirect tax initiatives and integrations.
Audit, Controversy & Tax Authority Management
- Serve as the primary executive contact for all tax audits, examinations, and inquiries.
- Lead and manage multi-state and multi-year audits.
- Oversee voluntary disclosure initiatives, including the Delaware VDA, and manage ongoing coordination with external advisors.
Tax Planning & Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and manage tax risks arising from changes in tax law, financing structures, and business operations.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies that minimize tax exposure while maintaining compliance.
- Oversee documentation and defense of uncertain tax positions.
Process Improvement, Controls & Governance
- Enhance tax processes, documentation, and internal controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, and audit readiness.
- Support automation and data improvement initiatives related to tax reporting and compliance.
- Establish strong tax governance and risk management frameworks.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax team members, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture.
- Provide technical guidance on complex tax issues.
- Partner closely with Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Legal, and external advisors.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Master’s in Taxation or Accounting strongly preferred
Experience
- 8–12+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership experience in corporate tax and/or public accounting
- Extensive experience with ASC 740, tax compliance, audit defense, and transactional tax matters
Certifications
- CPA and/or MST strongly preferred

Skills Required

- Extensive experience with ASC 740 tax provision and financial reporting
- Experience managing tax compliance and multi-state tax filings and audits
- Experience in tax controversy, audit defense, and voluntary disclosures
- Transactional tax experience (debt issuances, restructurings, intercompany financing)
- Experience with indirect taxes (sales & use, franchise, business license, occupational taxes)
- CPA and/or MST
- Strong leadership, judgment, project management, and communication skills
- Ability to support tax process improvement, controls, automation, and data initiatives
