We are seeking a brilliant, organized and highly motivated leader who will provide strategic and tactical medical leadership and will deliver key clinical and scientific leadership to clinical development programs while ensuring the highest standard for safety and compliance with regulatory requirements and standard procedures. The ideal candidate should have experience working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.  The successful candidate will report to the Chief Medical Officer.  The responsibilities of this leader are listed below. 

  • Lead one or more Program teams comprised of functional representatives from Clinical Development (Clinical Operations, Medical Monitoring, Clinical Science), Research and Translational Medicine, Regulatory, Technical Operations, Quality, and Commercial from phase 1  through phase 3 and through approval and launch; serve as the single point of accountability for the BTK Program Global Development Team (GDT), and to create and drive key program decisions through appropriate governance forums, where appropriate 
  • As a member of the Clinical Executive Management Team, partner with stakeholders to set clear direction and execute against goals for a portfolio of clinical stage therapies, ensuring the development and execution of program strategy is in line with corporate strategy and goals 
  • Drive the development and communication of program plans and development plan in partnership with the asset teams and program management 
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication; drive strategic and operational alignment with the Program team, functional leads, and Executive Management Team 
  • Identify challenges and risks and prepare the team with mitigations to navigate through technical and program challenges as they arise 
  • Develop or participate in the refinement/update of the Clinical Development Plan (CDP); act as or oversee the clinical leads for protocols and supportive activities to meet the CDP objectives  
  • Provide medical oversight for ongoing clinical trials including regular review of clinical data to improve understanding of the molecule profile, including but not limited to safety and activity 
  • Provide clinical oversight for Company operational staff and contract research organizations (CROs) in all areas related to the execution of therapeutic programs 
  • Provide and or oversee training and ongoing input to all members of the clinical team on medical and scientific issues related to the appropriate therapeutic field 
  • Provide medical support for all relevant regulatory discussions and activities, such as IND’s and NDA/MAAs 
  • Interact with principal investigators and opinion leaders to facilitate clinical trials research 
  • Refine and or establish processes and methods for design and implementation of applicable clinical protocols, data collection systems and final reports 
  • Data presentation to executive leaders, internal and external medical colleagues in one on one or large group settings (50+). 

Required Qualifications 

  • MD, board certified preferably in hematology/oncology 
  • Requires at least 10 years’ clinical trial experience in the setting of pharmaceutical industry with demonstrated experience and involvement in clinical trial design or execution. In particular, Ph3 clinical trial planning and execution. 
  • Relevant clinical research experience in academic settings will be reviewed in light of clinical development experience 
  • Excellent communicator with proven leadership skills and the ability to interact in a cross functional environment 
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities 
  • Proven leadership experience leading high performing teams and individuals 
  • Hands on leadership approach will be best suited for this critical role 
  • Experience working in a highly productive and high achieving collaboration

Skills Required

  • MD degree
  • Board certification, preferably in hematology or oncology
