The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the CTO, the VP of Software Engineering will be responsible for leading a high-performing, cross-functional engineering organization of 40+ people distributed across North and South America. This individual will set the vision and strategic direction for software development, architecture, IT, cloud operations, quality, and security. The ideal candidate will have experience managing, modernizing, and rationalizing complex SaaS platforms across multiple technology stacks in both AWS and Azure environments. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive innovation, ensure operational excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Role and Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy:

  • Drive platform rationalization efforts to streamline and optimize our technology stack.

  • Define and execute the strategic direction for software development, architecture, IT, security, cloud operations, and QA.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

  • Partner with Product Management to develop and execute a roadmap that includes Discovery and Delivery initiatives that align with company objectives and growth plans.

Software Development & Architecture:

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and high-performance SaaS applications.

  • Guide architectural decisions to ensure robustness, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Implement best practices for agile software development and DevOps methodologies.

IT & Cloud Operations:

  • Manage cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure to ensure reliability, security, and cost optimization.

  • Drive automation, monitoring, and operational/cost efficiency for our SaaS infrastructure.

Security & Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce security best practices, including data protection, access controls, and compliance with industry regulations.

  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and oversee rigorous testing strategies, including automated and manual testing.

  • Ensure the reliability and performance of SaaS applications through comprehensive QA processes.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive enhancements in development workflows, engineering productivity, and operational efficiencies.

  • Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and iterative improvements across engineering teams.

Talent Management & Development:

  • Build, mentor, and retain a world-class engineering team.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, career development, and technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading all aspects of a technology organization (software engineering and corporate IT/InfoSec) in a software-powered, growth-stage business.  SaaS experience is preferred.

  • A history of building and scaling engineering teams from 30 to 75+, resulting from both organic company growth and M&A.

  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and development skills with a track record of having successfully introduced and strengthened new process, capabilities, and ways of working to teams and individuals.

  • Excellent communication skills – the ability to motivate by sharing a grand vision but also to help focus the team on specific actions to align them to execute.  Effective in communicating to cross functional stakeholders, executive leaders, and staff.

  • Technical leadership experience – the ability to develop and execute a technology strategy in partnership with your principal engineers/architects.  Experience modernizing a platform or major component of a platform with some legacy components.

  • A history of delivering results that regularly and rapidly address strategic customer and product roadmap needs while balancing technical debt, vulnerability management, efficiency gains, and quality improvements.

Values and Personal Characteristics

  • You’re strongly motivated by the opportunity to transform, grow, and improve

  • You prioritize continuous learning and improvement within your teams.  You help foster an environment of psychological safety and experimentation as we move towards the next best state.

  • You balance technical excellence and innovation with practical business measures such as achieving rapid time to market, reasonable cost management, etc.  You evaluate options and make sure proposed solutions are balancing a wide set of requirements – not just implementing the latest new technology because it sounds amazing.

  • You are a strategic thinker who can articulate a vision and see it through to implementation by diagnosing the current state, communicating a direction and guardrails, and communicating important, prioritized actions to take to get there.

  • You value and promote diversity in your teams, believing that through our differences we bring unique perspectives that in the end will generate the best solutions to the challenges we face.
