VP, Product & NextGen Solutions – Applications Business Unit

Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned leader to oversee a cross-functional team focused the Product lifecycle for our Applications Business Unit (Product Management and Marketing), as well as Program Management and NextGen Solutions (Engineering). This individual will be responsible for the Applications Business Unit’s (BU) product strategy and vision including overseeing the entire product lifecycle in coordination with Engineering, Sales, Hydrogen, Finance, Operations and the Plug Power customer. This individual will also have oversight to Plug’s NextGen Solutions Engineering team which focuses on future needs of Plug’s customers across new and existing market segments. The selected candidate will play a very prominent role in the interaction with the Plug Power customers, bridging what the customer needs/wants with Plug Power capabilities and solutions. This leader will collaborate with industry professionals to assess customer needs to ensure Plug proactively anticipates, supports, and solves customer issues.
This is a unique opportunity to shape and transform the market for green energy through hydrogen solutions and applications. This individual must exhibit industry knowledge and experience to establish and communicate a long-term vision for the Plug Power’s Applications BU products and inspire confidence within Plug Power and among our customers and partners. This individual should also exhibit extensive experience in the fuel cell, BEV, Data Center Infrastructure or related application industry; and familiarity with manufacturing and engineering operations.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Define and implement a product vision for each product line within the Applications BU, and for each market that the product is sold into; establish current and long-range product objectives, ROI analysis, plans, and policies; own product roadmaps.
- Collaborate with Applications BU Senior Leadership team members as well as broader senior leaders within Plug, to align on the corporate strategy process and ensure alignment with all product strategy plans.
- Manage and oversee the continued development of product management, product marketing, NextGen Solutions (Engineering) and program management teams within the Applications BU.
- Establish a comprehensive product lifecycle process from strategic planning to tactical activities.
- Study the market we serve and the competitive landscape. Understand at deep level our products’ differentiation as compared to needs, trends and competition.
- Identify market potential, establish pricing and market strategies together with Finance & Sales, estimate potential sales, introduce market, and accountable for distribution/channel issues.
- Facilitates proactive customer solutions through collaboration with Sales and Product Development Teams.
- Engage with customers and prospects to share our vision and learn their business needs.
- Work with sales and marketing team members to create the content and tools needed to successfully sell, implement and service the product.
- Drive effective communications throughout the organization; work collaboratively with the marketing, sales, development, support, and implementation teams.
- Partner with the Applications Engineering team to further accelerate sales through positioning of Plug Power product offerings in a manner that maximizes customer value.
- Defines promotional activities, publicizing the product through the press, sales force, and alternate distribution channels.
- Acts as a pre-contract liaison with customer and may participate in negotiating with key customers regarding contract terms and conditions.
- Leverage Plug Power’s extensive supply chain to provide or enhance customer solutions ahead of our competition.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is required; a Master’s Degree in Business or Engineering is preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant experience including combination of time spent in Engineering, Product Management/Marketing and Program Management roles.
- Experience in fast-paced innovative, technical environment strongly preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a senior leader with a global technical and manufacturing company.
- Cross-functional collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to make critical decisions and influence others.
- Technically astute with experience defining product specifications with customer needs
- Executive presence, excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong desire to join a growth-oriented technology company and to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive a strategic planning process as well as manage large complex projects.
- Creative problem-solver, with ability to work independently and drive for results.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Ability to establish rapport and build trust quickly at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and the undefined.
Pay Rate:
$200,000.00 - $250,000.00
