VP, Investor Relations

Role Summary:

As the Vice President of Investor Relations for Sun Life, the incumbent in this role contributes greatly to the relationship with Sun Life investors as well as those among the analyst community.  This role reports to the EVP, Chief Financial Officer and leads a small team. The Investor Relations team at Sun Life is a critical, strategic function for Sun Life, responsible for developing and executing Sun Life’s communication strategy with institutional investors and sell-side analysts and managing relationships with equity investors. The team is regularly connected across Sun Life’s global organization understanding business insights and successes to highlight to the investor community.  Through this work, there is an incredible opportunity to learn about the different Business Groups operating in Sun Life and gain exposure to senior executives and external stakeholders. 

Accountabilities include:

  • Lead the development and execution of Sun Life's investor communication strategy, including preparation for the release of quarterly financial results, investor day meetings, investor conferences, road shows, education seminars, and on-going interactions with senior executives and the investment community
  • Partner with Communications, Marketing, Legal, Capital and Corp Dev on all financial press releases
  • Create the Sun Life pitch for existing and potential investors ensuring content, language and tone reflect Sun Life strategies, priorities and brand
  • Monitor and assess market perception of the company and rating trends and proactively address gaps and maintain a strong competitive intelligence program.
  • Oversee the development of the Investor Relations marketing and targeting plan which focuses on identifying and successfully recruiting new long-term institutional investors for both equity and debt investments
  • Monitor and consolidate investor feedback, capital market trends and global regulatory developments on available capital, including review and analysis of company, competitor and industry equity research  
  • Interpret and share insight from the investment community with senior management
  • Work closely with internal partners to ensure consistency in messaging
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics for the investor relations function

Experience and competencies:

  • 10+ years as an executive with increasing responsibilities.
  • Strong stakeholder influence and impact.
  • Strong financial acumen, strategic thinking and curiosity, and experience with financial markets
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills so that strategy and vision can be effectively communicated internally and externally.
  • Deep financial acumen.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of delivering results in a complex environment.
  • Experience leading direct and virtual teams thorough inspiring people and connecting them to a vision.
  • Skilled at building alignment and partnerships both within functions and across divisions.
  • Outside in perspective, ability to think globally and strong grasp of the complex operating environment.
  • Team player with demonstrated effective interaction at all levels, internally and externally, engendering confidence and professional regard and leading the team to deliver innovative solutions and client-centric service.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
