The Opportunity
This role will be responsible for leading and driving enterprise learning and development initiatives across the organization, ensuring the delivery of leadership, professional skills, mandatory and Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programs. Designing and driving a new L&D strategy, in line with our evolving business needs, skills development mission and emerging AI enabled L&D industry, will be a key deliverable. It will also manage the Learning Partner teams that support our regions, countries, lines of business and global functions for all learning needs, including distribution which will not be included in the role's responsibilities. It will have responsibility for management of the EL&D budget including the management of our current outsourced partner's (GP Strategies) teams.
How You'll Help Us Build a More Confident Future
By taking responsibility and delivering on the following:
Learning Programs:
• Leadership Development: Develop and implement leadership development programs that align with the company's strategic goals and objectives.
• Professional Skills Development: Design and deliver comprehensive training programs to enhance the professional skills of our employees.
• Mandatory Compliance Development: Ensure that all employees receive the necessary training to comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Develop and implement compliance training programs, in partnership with course sponsors, that are engaging, effective, time efficient, and up to date.
• AI Learning Requirements: Identify and assess the AI learning needs of the organization at both the enterprise level and within each line of business/function. Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement AI training programs that enhance employees' understanding and proficiency in AI technologies and applications.
L&D Disciplines:
• L&D Strategy: Develop and execute a new learning and development strategy that aligns with the company's strategy and key skills development needs. Identify emerging trends and best practices in L&D and incorporate them into the strategy to ensure continuous improvement.
• Learning Culture: Lead the transformation of the organization's learning culture by promoting a growth mindset and a continuous learning environment. Develop and implement initiatives that encourage employees to take ownership of their learning and development, such as self-directed learning programs, knowledge sharing platforms, and communities of practice.
• Content Strategy: Stay updated with the latest developments in AI and technology content creation in the L&D field. Develop a content strategy that incorporates these advancements to deliver personalized engaging learning experiences that leverages both custom developed and off the shelf content.
• Learning Technology: Stay updated with the latest developments in learning technology and partner with our Learning Technology & Data team to identify and define requirements that implement/maintain a technology ecosystem that enables the L&D strategy and required business/employee experience.
• Data Analytics: Utilize data analytics to measure the effectiveness of the L&D programs and initiatives. Identify key metrics and develop reporting mechanisms to track progress and make data-driven decisions. Build data source and capability to drive personalized marketing and engagement campaigns. Partner with our Learning Technology & Data team to define the overall L&D analytics and reporting strategy.
• Marketing & Engagement: Build out marketing and engagement strategies to promote the L&D programs and initiatives to employees. Develop creative and effective communication channels to increase awareness and participation.
• Employee Engagement, Reward & Recognition: Develop strategies to enhance employee engagement and recognition within the learning and development context. Develop a reward and recognition framework to acknowledge and celebrate employee achievements in their learning and development journey. Implement programs that incentivize continuous learning and drive a culture of growth. Implement initiatives that celebrate and reward employees' commitment to learning, such as certification programs, learning badges, and recognition events.
• Collaboration with HR and Business Leaders: Collaborate with HR and business leaders to align L&D initiatives with the organization's overall talent strategy and business goals. Act as a trusted advisor, providing guidance and expertise on learning and development strategies, programs, and initiatives.
L&D Operational Leadership:
• Oversight of Outsourced Learning Supplier: Manage the day-to-day operations with our outsourced learning supplier, ensuring the delivery of high-quality training programs and services. Monitor performance, provide feedback, and partner with our Portfolio Management team around the governance and contractual requirements of the relationship. Assess 2026 RFP/renewal needs.
• Responsible Management of L&D Budget: Develop and manage the L&D budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to support the organization's learning and development initiatives. Monitor expenses, track ROI, and make data-driven decisions to optimize the utilization of the budget.
• Leadership of Team: Provide leadership and guidance to the L&D team across all regions, ensuring consistency in program delivery and alignment with the organization's goals. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices across regions.
• Upskilling of L&D Team: Identify the skills and capabilities required for the L&D team to effectively support the organization's learning and development needs. Develop and implement training and development programs to upskill the L&D team, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and capabilities to deliver high-quality consulting and learning experiences.
• Leadership of L&D Community: Act as a thought leader and advocate for learning and development within the organization. Establish and lead a community of L&D professionals, including LOB/function L&D teams, facilitating knowledge exchange, collaboration, and continuous improvement in L&D practices.
Other:
• External Representation: Serve as the company's representative for L&D capability and activity in the industry. Participate in industry conferences, events, and forums to share best practices, showcase the organization's L&D initiatives, and build relationships with industry peers and thought leaders.
• Social Media Presence: Develop and maintain a strong presence for the company's L&D capability and activity on social media platforms. Create and curate content that highlights the organization's learning initiatives, thought leadership, and employee success stories.
• Thought Leadership: Stay abreast of industry trends, research, and best practices in learning and development. Share insights and thought leadership through articles, blog posts, and other thought leadership platforms. Position the organization as a leader in L&D and contribute to the advancement of the field.
• Build a working partnership with HR Distribution Academy & Services Lead to ensure that distribution L&D needs and resources are accounted for in the allocation of resources in market where Learning Partners serve all business needs.

• The advancement of AI in the workplace means that the strategic importance of upskilling, cross skilling and capability building in the coming years will increase exponentially as the workplace changes.
• An evolving and dynamic L&D industry, with the introduction of Generative AI, means that this role is critical to the future of MetLife's L&D and capability building strategy.
• This requires MetLife's L&D strategy to evolve to this changing workplace and evolving needs.
• The needs of employees in this environment, in line with our Employee Care aspirations and requirements, necessitates a more personalized employee development offering that takes in to account employee behaviors around learning engagement and adoption.
• To enable the above change horizons, this role will need to identify and lead the acquisition and development of new skillsets in the L&D teams, especially around AI utilization in the L&D lifecycle, data analytics, marketing and engagement, and learning experience, to facilitate skills development at scale.
• These change horizons will necessitate a review of our L&D operating model and specifically in relation to the requirements of our preferred supplier relationship, which is due for review at renewal on 1 Jan 2026.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $209,000 to $278,000. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation.
