Vice President, Finance

As VP, Finance you will be a highly experienced tactical and strategic finance professional.  It's an opportunity best suited to a well-rounded SaaS finance leader with a disciplined approach who has helped build and witnessed the success of a finance operation in scaling tech companies. You will be overseeing all financial aspects of our company, from financial planning and analysis to risk management and regulatory compliance. You will report to the CEO and work closely with the Executive Team and other key stakeholders to drive financial growth, optimize profitability, and implement best practices to support our fast growing business objectives.

Responsibilities 

  • Financial Strategy:  Develop and execute the financial strategy to support the company’s growth objectives, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and long-term vision.
  • Capital Planning and Management: Manage the company’s capital structure, including debt and equity financing. Evaluate and recommend strategies for capital raising and other financial decisions.
  • Treasury Management: Oversee cash flow planning, working capital management, and treasury operations. Optimize cash management practices and ensure efficient utilization of financial resources.
  • Financial Operations: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, adherence to accounting principles, and compliance with regulations. Partner with our People Team to process monthly payroll for Canada and US employees. Assess resourcing needs and requirements to support company growth.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage financial risks to protect the company’s assets and ensure compliance with regulations. Implement risk mitigation strategies and internal controls.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Lead the financial planning process, including budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of financial performance. Provide accurate and timely financial reports and insights to the Executive Team, the Board of Directors, and Venture Capital Firms.
  • Investor Relations: Act as a key liaison with investors, analysts, and other external stakeholders. Prepare and present financial information for investor meetings, roadshows, and annual reports.  
  • Banking Relations: Drive capital acquisition efforts by negotiating with financial institutions to lock in favorable financing terms while protecting company equity and financial flexibility. 
  • Stay Abreast of Industry Trends: Keep up to date with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting the financial landscape. Apply relevant insights to drive strategic decision-making.

As a senior leader in the organization, you will be responsible for making commitments, developing company policies, making high level business decisions, signing important documents, planning workforce requirements, helping form company-wide strategies, evaluating the work of other leaders, and evaluating the success of the organization. Keeps up to date on competitors, the market, and new industry standards.

  • Technical Execution: Manages departmental objectives and metrics. Reports monthly to executives and quarterly to the Senior Executive team. Is sought out for strategic advice or input, based on their expertise
  • Ownership:  Works with the C-Suite to determine the strategy, considering business focus, hiring, budgets, and the current team. Contributes to solving cross-functional team problems at a strategic level. Drives significant impacts and improvements across their function; strategically plans for how people and processes scale. 
  • Communication:  Effectively facilitates communication regarding decisions between the Executive Team and their department.  Is a skilled communicator, demonstrates ability to influence decision making at all levels of the company.
  • Leadership: Drives broader organizational efforts around culture, work, and values. Manages risk effectively in developing innovative solutions.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Exhibits self awareness of how they impact their team and other stakeholders they work with. Able to recognize their areas of improvement, identify their strengths, and see their own limitations.
  • Business Acumen: Entrepreneurial mindset, helps to shape functional area goals, constantly learning. Shows an interest in learning how other functional areas within the organization operate and identifies ways to collaborate more effectively cross-functionally.



Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field, coupled with a CPA designation. An MBA is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of a broad range of financial skills and professional history of effectively managing financial matters in a SaaS company.(i.e. accounting principles, budgeting, developing and maintaining financial forecasting models, risk management, analyzing complex financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights that support decision-making and drive business growth).
• Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior finance leadership role, preferably in a SaaS or technology, fast growing and scaling environment. Have firsthand experience with the challenges of taking a SaaS company from a start-up to a scale-up, growing a team from 100 to 200, solving growth, raising capital, and reaching profitability.
• Exceptional leadership abilities with a track record of building strong partnerships cross-functionally.
• Strong business acumen, along with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Proficiency in financial software systems: Experience with QuickBooks, Wave, ADP, TriNet, Google Suite, Slack, and Notion are an asset.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in capital management, investor relations, and fundraising.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to convey and understand information, inspire confidence and trust with all internal and external stakeholders. (executive leaders, board members, investors, individual contributors and people leaders across an organization).

  • We are a flexible and “Purpose Driven” hybrid-work environment. In-office presence will be required at least 2 times per week.
