Overview

The Vice President of Software Engineering is responsible for leading HungerRush’s software engineering organization in building HungerRush 360, our flagship cloud point of sale system, and related platforms. Leading at this level includes overseeing multiple teams through Engineering Managers, Senior Managers, and Staff Engineers, ensuring they are coordinated, empowered, and accountable for delivery. 

We believe strong technical expertise is fundamental for this role. It’s not just about overseeing teams and strategy; our leaders are expected to have experience in the trenches, leading by example and engaging directly with technical challenges when necessary. This hands-on approach and real-world experience ensure sound decision-making, foster innovation, and keep our engineering organization at the leading edge. 

This role requires close partnership with Product, Design, and Operations leadership to shape company-level priorities, plan cross-functional initiatives, and align engineering execution with strategic business objectives. The VP also communicates regularly with executive stakeholders, partners, and customers to ensure the engineering organization’s work delivers customer value. 

At times, this leader will need to focus on unblocking engineering at scale - whether through technical oversight, organizational changes, or process improvements. They are expected to maintain a broad and deep understanding of both the business and the market to guide priorities, identify opportunities, and ensure engineering expertise drives lasting business impact and differentiation. 

This is a remote role. 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Lead and scale the software engineering organization as a manager of managers. 

• Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent while building strong leadership bench strength. 

• Provide strategic technical direction, ensuring architecture and systems support scalability, security, and performance. 

• Oversee delivery of engineering initiatives across multiple product lines. 

• Partner with Product, Design, and Operations to align engineering priorities with customer needs. 

• Drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and effectiveness. 

• Champion reduction of technical debt and systemic improvements in system reliability. 

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful go-to-market outcomes. 

• Represent engineering leadership in executive and board-level discussions.

Education  

• Computer Science or other related bachelor’s degree focused on software development. 

Qualifications 

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles (managing managers and senior engineers). 

• Proven success leading large-scale SaaS engineering organizations. 

• Deep experience with distributed systems, cloud environments (Azure preferred), and modern architectures. 

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies including C#, Azure, and SQL Server 

• Demonstrated success delivering SaaS, E-Commerce, or consumer-facing web applications/APIs 

• Track record of scaling teams, implementing engineering best practices, and improving velocity and quality.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

• Experience with Angular/React/Vue or other modern front-end frameworks. 

• Expertise in Queues, Caches, CDNs, and related technologies for scalability. 

• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation. 

• Background in restaurant technology, payments, or POS platforms.
