You will represent the entire Backbase product: our Engagement Banking Platform across different verticals such as Retail and Business Banking. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping both the product and engineering vision - driving technical excellence while aligning our platform with real customer needs and market opportunities.

Meet the job

• Engineering Excellence – Drive a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and technical rigor across the organisation. Set and uphold engineering standards, promote best practices in software development, and ensure teams are empowered with the tools, processes, and support they need to thrive.
• Cross-functional Collaboration - Work with product, design, business, sales, and marketing teams to bring banking products to market, ensuring engineering has an equal voice in strategic decisions. Align engineering efforts with product requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations specific to the banking sector.
• Team Building & Management - Oversees and grows RnD squads, including engineering managers, directors, and developers (FE, BE and QA), ensuring they have the skills and resources to deliver high-quality software. Foster an empowering and inclusive engineering culture that attracts and retains top talent, emphasizing psychological safety and professional growth. Manages a number of direct reports (director, managers, lead principal level), run regular 1:1s, and provide mentorship and career development opportunities.
• Capacity Planning – Ensure your teams have the execution power, organizational structure, and technical capability to deliver on our ambitious vision.
• Portfolio Management – Manage cross-functional delivery with clarity and coordination, overcoming dependencies and aligning execution with strategic objectives.
• Evangelism – Represent Backbase with conviction, both internally and externally. Whether it’s at customer workshops, strategic forums, or industry events, you position our platform as the market leader in digital banking innovation.

How about you

• You have extensive experience leading engineering departments of 100+ people and are passionate about building engineering excellence and culture.
• You come from a strong engineering background, with experience in product-led tech environments and a deep understanding of software development at scale.
• You thrive in globally distributed, cross-cultural teams and can inspire remote/offshore squads as effectively as those on-site.
• You bring strategic clarity and focus, even when navigating a high volume of complex decisions.
• You can set and execute a long-term technical and product roadmap while staying close to delivery and day-to-day realities.
• You balance collaboration with execution and prioritize real outcomes over opinions or assumptions.
• You consistently build, lead, and develop teams that deliver on-time, high-quality software that scales.
