What You’ll Bring to The Team:

You are passionate about building large-scale, mission-critical software in a fast-paced agile environment. As  VP of Engineering, you tackle people and technical challenges—from shaping team culture and growing the team, to contributing to company-wide technical roadmaps and leading projects, to ensuring service delivery according to SLAs.

You will: 

  • Lead and mentor your team to solve challenging technical problems, enhancing productivity and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Drive operational excellence by implementing well-established metrics to measure outcomes, analyzing results, and continuously improving processes to optimize for employee satisfaction and output.
  • Cultivate an engineering culture that emphasizes leadership, growth, and scale, ensuring the promotion of individual and organizational growth through thoughtful hiring practices.
  • Ensure 99.99% service availability uptime, maintaining a robust and reliable infrastructure.
  • Translate business objectives into actionable development plans, effectively communicating challenges, timelines, designs, and goals.
  • Lead the team in software architecture best practices, focusing on scalability, performance, availability, maintainability, extensibility, and security.
  • Enhance software development processes and practices to ensure high-quality products and code.
  • Actively partner cross-functionally with product, architecture, and engineering teams to build actionable and measurable product plans.
  • Provide inspirational leadership for the engineering group, fostering a culture of growth and technical excellence.
  • Improve our technical brand both internally and externally, focusing on recruitment and retention.
  • Define, communicate, and ensure the team has the right tools, processes, and resources for the job.
  • Leverage AI/ML to drive operational efficiencies, transform the organization, and develop innovative AI products.

An Ideal Candidate Is/Has:

  • A passion for Florence’s mission.
  • 12+ years of experience in software development.
  • 7+ years of experience providing technical and architectural leadership to software development teams building SaaS products.
  • Experience actively managing software developers, including performance reviews and hiring.
  • Strong experience with Angular, Node.js, MongoDB, and AWS.
  • Proven experience in complex domains for users with specialized expertise.
  • Deep understanding of metrics and how to use them to drive operational excellence.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering organizations and how to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Experience or focus on AI/ML to enhance operational efficiencies and create AI-driven products.

We’ll be extra excited if you have:

  • Experience managing managers of software developers.
  • Experience working with teams across time zones.
  • Startup experience or experience establishing a new team.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
