The Role

Vālenz® Health is the platform to simplify healthcare – the destination for employers, payers, providers and members to reduce costs, improve quality, and elevate the healthcare experience. The Valenz mindset and culture of innovation combine to create a distinctly different approach to an inefficient, uninspired health system. With fully integrated solutions, Valenz engages early and often to execute across the entire patient journey – from care navigation and management to payment integrity, plan performance and provider verification. With a 99% client retention rate, we elevate expectations to a new level of efficiency, effectiveness and transparency where smarter, better, faster healthcare is possible.

About This Opportunity: As our VP of Application Development, you’ll lead the development, support, and maintenance of all enterprise applications—custom-built and commercially purchased. You will be instrumental in shaping the long-term vision for Valenz Health’s application ecosystem, driving modernization and innovation across platforms, and delivering business value through scalable and reliable technology solutions.
Things You’ll Do Here:

  • Define and execute the enterprise application strategy aligned with business goals, with a focus on performance, scalability, security, and user experience.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of application development—from design and architecture to deployment, support, and continuous improvement for all Valenz applications.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of developers, application managers, architects, and QA engineers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, agility, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with business leaders, product owners, and key stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver solutions that drive measurable value.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors and service providers; ensure purchased applications are optimized and integrated effectively with internal systems.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for coding, testing, deployment, and documentation. Ensure applications meet compliance and security standards, especially in the healthcare domain (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Develop and manage budgets for the application development function.
  • Ensure resource allocation aligns with business priorities and ROI expectations.
  • Lead the strategic modernization and unification of the application landscape resulting from recent acquisitions.
  • Drive the consolidation of redundant platforms, rationalize legacy systems, and architect a scalable, cohesive technology ecosystem that supports long-term growth and innovation.

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in application development and technology leadership roles, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership position.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise-scale application development in healthcare or similarly regulated industries.
  • Deep understanding of modern application architecture (e.g., microservices, APIs, cloud-native), DevOps practices, and Agile/SAFe methodologies.
  • Strong experience with both custom application development and COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) software platforms.
  • Strong experience leading the implementation of core software for business units that deliver services.
  • Track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Where You’ll Work: This is a fully remote position, and we’ll provide all the necessary equipment!

  • Work Environment: You’ll need a quiet workspace that is free from distractions.
  • Technology: Reliable internet connection—if you can use streaming services, you’re good to go!
  • Security: Adherence to company security protocols, including the use of VPNs, secure passwords, and company-approved devices/software.
  • Location: You must be US based, in a location where you can work effectively and comply with company policies such as HIPAA.
