What can you expect?
As a Voluntary Benefits Consultant in Mercer’s Mid‑Market practice (clients with up to 5,000 lives), you will be accountable for account management by driving client satisfaction and revenue growth across an assigned portfolio.
You will assist a group of colleagues who manage requests for inforce clients up to 1,500 lives and, as business needs require, support and oversee additional accounts exceeding 1,500 lives.
Leveraging deep voluntary benefits expertise, you will partner with Lead Consultants and Client Managers to design, implement and manage voluntary benefit solutions that align with clients’ global benefits strategies and objectives.
You will collaborate closely with regional Health & Benefits colleagues and draw on the resources of our Voluntary Benefits Center of Excellence.

Lead with the highest sense of integrity, professionalism, and team-first approach in support of Mercer’s strategic priorities
Effectively support Mercer’s Health and Benefits strategy and value proposition by working cohesively with a large, matrixed team of Health, Wealth and Career colleagues to meet clients’ strategic objectives
Directly manage a team of colleagues within the Mid-Market Voluntary Benefits Consulting team; actively mentor junior colleagues across the Voluntary Benefits Practice to deliver brand strength and growth
Within a team structure, support a book of Mercer clients containing Voluntary Benefits lines of coverage across various industries or specialties
Develop and execute value-based expansion, penetration and retention strategies for client accounts leveraging an in-depth understanding of client needs, market trends and product and service offerings
Effectively partner with carriers and vendors to drive market innovation and growth.
Maintain a strong professional network and represent Mercer’s brand in the market
What you need to have:
Bachelor’s Degree required
Voluntary Benefits subject matter experience required
Strong voluntary benefits product, process and market knowledge (to include but not be limited to supplemental health, ID Theft Protection, Legal, Auto/Home, Discount, Purchasing Programs, Discount, Pet Insurance, Life with LTC)
5+ years’ experience as a Voluntary Benefits Consultant
10+ years delivering Voluntary Benefits solutions to large and complex employers
Prior people or team management experience desired
Strong financial and business acumen
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, successfully manage multiple and conflicting priorities to meet or exceed deadlines
Current Life/Health License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Strong collaboration and team focused skills (relationship building and fostering with Mercer Health & Benefits and Voluntary Benefits colleagues)
