Shutterstock Studios is seeking a highly experienced Visual Effects (VFX) Director to join our creative team to work alongside and oversee our network of VFX Artists and vendor partners to deliver high-quality VFX work for our clients. As a Visual Effects Director you will be responsible for the strategy, design leadership and overall execution of visual effects work on a given project and contribute to the growth of the 3D & Immersive department.  

The Day to Day:

• Work closely with senior leadership and key stakeholders to determine production requirements and advise on best practices, available processes and budgets for all types of VFX/XR projects.

• Lead and manage high profile projects to deliver on best-in-class creative expectations, deadlines and budgets.

• Work with EPs and producers to competitively bid VFX and 3D work.

• Collaborate with Directors and Clients to ensure the artistic style, quality and continuity of visuals matches the visions, standards and overall scope.

• Attend on set shoots advising on best VFX practices and assessing real-time feedback back any out-of-scope elements with SSTK line producers as they happen. 

• Lead and vet new vendors with the VFX Producer for any given project.

• Oversee all aspects for the body of FX shots throughout the post from start to finish.

• Proactively recommend ongoing pipeline improvements and development and work to identify additional tools necessary for VFX production.

• Work directly on any high-end VFX or compositing tasks as and when needed.

• Actively seek out new talent and help senior 3D & Immersive leadership with recruiting new talent, with an eye towards possible gaps in the CG pipeline.
   

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Minimum ten (10+) years of work and leadership  experience as a VFX supervisor in a film or commercial production environment, animated TV series or visual effects group;

• Minimum ten (10+) years of experience in pre-production for feature film CG/VFX workflows OR comparable work in AAA game development.

• Extensive knowledge of VFX production and CG pipelines;

• Thorough understanding of current film production trends and on-set experience;

• Knowledge of an asset manager such as SHOTGUN/ Ftrack;

• Knowledge of various 2D/3D software (e.g., Maya, Nuke, etc.);

• Excellent organizational and communication skills;

• Excellent project management skills;

• Ability to supervise and assign tasks to a production team;

• Must be attentive to the needs of the production team, art directors and coordinators;

• Must be willing and able to travel to shoots to act in on-set supervisor role;

• Willing to be flexible with working hours during delivery timelines
