We are currently looking for a VistA MUMPS Developer for a 100% remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the modernization and maintenance of the VA’s VistA electronic health record system. The selected candidate will manage software products, middleware platforms, and system integrations with a focus on ensuring the performance, scalability, and security of health data applications.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
- Write, modify, and maintain clean, scalable MUMPS code for the VistA system.
- Implement new functionalities based on user requirements and propose system enhancements.
- Maintain system performance and address identified security vulnerabilities.
- Troubleshoot defects, produce bug fixes, and remediate POA&Ms.
- Integrate VistA with other healthcare systems using HL7 and other interoperability protocols.
- Design, develop, and manage databases within the VistA environment.
- Provide technical support, troubleshoot system issues, and communicate technical details to end users.
- Participate in code reviews, quality assurance activities, and enhance the M-Unit framework with the VistA-Kernel module.
- Stay current with MUMPS programming developments and healthcare IT advancements.
- Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in IT and/or Federal Government contracting.
- Proven experience as a MUMPS developer within the VistA environment.
- Hands-on experience with VistA Kernel components including TaskMan, MenuMan, Alerts, and KIDS.
- Experience with FileMan and MailMan utilities.
- RPC Broker experience (client and server), including Delphi-based Broker Development Kit and MUMPS-based server development.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks and regression testing practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand user requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Results-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality software on schedule.
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain a government clearance.
- SAFe or Scrum certification preferred.
