Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Full Time Visitor Services Manager in our Visitor Services Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

Position Summary

This position will manage the day-to-day operations of Visitor Services at Denver Botanic Gardens. The primary responsibilities include all aspects of managing the Visitor Services team, including hiring, training, evaluating, motivating, and maintaining staff and volunteers. The Visitor Services Manager is responsible for ensuring all Denver Botanic Gardens visitors have a positive, efficient, and pleasant experience with all Visitor Services staff and volunteers. This position must work closely with most departments to ensure good communication with front-of-house staff and visitors.

Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains clear communication with Membership & Visitor Services management team to ensure smooth operation of all points of DBG entry and information desks.
  • Supervises the Visitor Services team. 
  • Manages the Ambassador Volunteer program.
  • Maintains a model Visitor Services team with focus on providing and maintaining excellent customer service from Visitor Services personnel and Ambassador volunteers.
  • Represents Visitor Services’ needs, wants and expectations in staff and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Ensures accuracy in bank deposits, change orders, drawer reconciliation and shift coverage.
  • Responsible for assigned aspects of Visitor Services staffing including, but not limited to hiring and firing, training, development, disciplinary process, and recognition.   
  • Coordinates with Associate Director of Visitor Services and Resource Center on the overall operations of Visitor Services.
  • Reviews daily shift summaries, investigate discrepancies, implements training and disciplinary action as required.
  • Adjusts change fund and complete change orders as needed.
  • Ensures compliance of all DBG and Operating Policies and Procedures. Communicate and ensure compliance with policies for reports, customer service, cash handling, refunds, and admissions opening and closing. 
  • Maintains regular admissions hours, as well as operate during special events, including evenings and weekends as necessary. 
  • Act as a positive role model.
  • Works with all departments to assure highest quality experience for all DBG visitors within the Visitors Center and throughout the Gardens.
  • Proactively seeks to be knowledgeable about all DBG horticulture, exhibits, programs, and events to reflect the experience and brand at the Gardens.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.
  • All Gardens employees must be committed to the mission of connecting people with plants, especially plants from the Rocky Mountain region and similar regions around the world, providing delight and enlightenment to everyone.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have strong leadership skills and have experience with successfully motivating and training personnel.
  • Must have a clear understanding of current accounting processes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  
  • Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.  
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
  • Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing admissions in a museum/cultural environment or work in retail/banking preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management position.
  • Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, retail POS software management and Raiser’s Edge and ATMS software preferred.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 3 years of experience managing admissions in a museum or cultural environment, or experience in retail or banking
  • At least 5 years of management experience
  • Strong leadership skills and experience motivating and training personnel
  • Understanding of current accounting processes
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications
  • Retail POS software management experience
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge and ATMS software
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and modify plans as needed
