About the Opportunity

The Department of Music in the College of Arts, Media and Design invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position in Music and AI with applications to music industry at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. This is a one-year position on the Boston campus with the possibility of renewal for a second year. We seek an experienced college-level educator with a record of interdisciplinary research, innovative pedagogy, and relevant teaching experience in music industry/business and intersecting technical areas such as algorithm development, artificial intelligence, data analysis, extended reality, and/or rapid prototyping. The Department of Music has strong programs in Music Industry and Music Technology, and we seek a colleague who can bridge these areas. Candidates whose pedagogy and research are informed by performance and/or professional experience are encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is three courses per semester and will likely be comprised of the following: three sections of Introduction to Music Industry (two in Fall, one in Spring), a new course AI and the Music Industry (Fall), and two additional Music Industry electives in the Spring that align with the successful candidate’s expertise.

Qualifications

Candidates must be ABD or have a terminal degree (PhD) in music or a related area prior to the start of the appointment, and have teaching experience at the college level.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must have the necessary qualifications and the ability to be appointed at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor commencing August 2025. The competitive salary is commensurate with experience. All full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the cultural life and function of the Department through service on committees, special projects, and student advising and engagement activities. These service roles are determined based on alignments with candidate’s past experiences and profiles in teaching, research and creative practice.

The Department of Music offers students a cross-disciplinary approach to the study and practice of music, underscored by real-world experiential learning, a global perspective, and cutting-edge technology. Our focus includes “hard skills,” but also transcends them, with a curriculum that encourages students to develop critical frameworks for socially responsible and ethically grounded leadership in the arts and cultural industries. Our degree programs include the BA in Music, BS in Music with concentrations in Music Industry and Music Technology, and combined majors with Business Administration, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Game Design, Physics, and Psychology.

Pay Range:

Visiting Assistant Professor: $59,000 - $70,000 | Visiting Associate Professor: $65,000 - $77,000 | Visiting Professor: $72,000 - $85,000

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
