Position description:

We seek socio-cultural candidates whose research addresses and who can teach courses on at least two of the following: gender, anthropology of religion (particularly Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism), linguistic anthropology, medical anthropology, anthropology of education, family and kinship, and anthropology of childhood. In terms of geographic expertise, preference will be given to candidates who work in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, South, East, or Southeast Asia or amongst indigenous people of Oceania or the Americas, but we will also consider other areas not currently represented by faculty in the department. Candidates with Ph.D. in anthropology in hand and teaching experience are preferred, but ABD candidates, as well as candidates in closely related fields are welcome to apply. The successful candidate will teach six courses over three ten-week trimesters.

About the Anthropology Department:

The Department prides itself on strong teaching and on building relationships with students. Department members are all active scholars who support each other’s scholarship and who value the integration of research and teaching. The department has a long tradition of field schools (currently running in Fiji and India) where students do hands-on research. Anthropology at Union contributes to many interdisciplinary programs and to the Complex Questions general education curriculum that focuses on global challenges and on social justice. Union College offers many opportunities for both faculty and students to engage with multiple disciplines in interdisciplinary programs and unique research initiatives. The successful hire can develop courses in their area of expertise that may contribute to the college’s interdisciplinary programs. Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $68,500-$70,500. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
